On ne doit pas confondre la motion de censure et la motion de blâme, de même que le vote de censure et le vote de blâme. La motion de blâme vise à condamner un acte ou une prise de position d'un député, d'un ministre ou d'un gouvernement. Une telle motion constitue une sanction morale, un avertissement.
