The 446 Patent disclosure states that the patent relates to the use of a series of pyrazolo [4, 3-d] pyrimidin-7-ones for the treatment of impotence. The disclosure then states that the present invention concerns the use of a compound of formula I. Formula I gives rise to approximately 260 quintillion chemical compounds. The disclosure classifies these 260 quintillion compounds into four categories : a preferred group of compounds, a more preferred group of compounds; a particularly preferred group of compounds : and a list of especially preferred individual compounds of the invention. Included in the list of especially preferred individual compounds is 5-[2-ethoxy-5-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl-sulphonyl)-phenyl]-1-methyl-3-n-propyl-1, 6-dihydro-7H-pyrazolo[ 4, 3-d] pyrimidin-7-one or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 2, record 29, English, - 5%2D%5B2%2Dethoxy%2D5%2D%284%2Dmethyl%2D1%2Dpiperazinyl%2Dsulphonyl%29%2Dphenyl%5D%2D1%2Dmethyl%2D3%2Dn%2Dpropyl%2D1%2C6%2Ddihydro%2D7H%2Dpyrazolo%5B4%2C3%2Dd%5Dpyrimidin%2D7%2Done

In 1881, an early patent for a piano player was issued to John McTammany of Cambridge, Mass. John McTammany described his invention as a mechanical musical instrument. It worked using narrow sheets of perforated flexible paper which triggered the notes. A later automatic piano player was the Angelus patented by Edward H. Leveaux of England on 27 February 1879, and described as an apparatus for storing and transmitting motive power. 1, record 30, English, - automatic%20piano%20player

2, record 31, English, - pyrazolo%20%5B4%2C3%2Dd%5Dpyrimidin%2D7%2Done

It is important to maintain proper records in order to protect the fruits of any development effort. If an invention is independently conceived by two persons at about the same time, then only the first inventor is entitled to a patent. Compulsory Licences. Since it is the object of the patents system to encourage the development of new industries it would be pointless to allow an inventor to patent his invention and then do nothing about it and indeed prevent anyone else from making the new invention available to the public. Still worse would it be to allow him to prevent other inventors putting their inventions to work. Section 37 of the Patents Acts 1949, therefore, provides for "any person interested" to be entitled to apply for a licence under a patent at any time after the expiry of three years from the date of sealing of the patent, upon certain grounds. 3, record 67, English, - compulsory%20licence

2, record 67, French, - licence%20obligatoire

Cross Licenses... Such a license sometimes becomes an economic necessity where neither party is willing to sell or assign its patent to the other but also neither party can make, use or sell its patented invention to its best commercial advantage without the benefit of the other party's patent. Therefore the owners of the patents will cross-license each other for the right to use each other's patent. Cross licenses are most often made between owners of "interfering" or "blocking" patents. Such interfering or blocking patents cover different aspects of the same invention. For example, if a basic patent is owned by one party and an improvement patent on the same invention is owned by another party, a cross license is warranted because the parties must have the benefit of both patents in order to practice the improvement to its best commercial advantage. 1, record 73, English, - cross%20license

to give license to another to use a patent or invention in return for a similar license. 1, record 74, English, - cross%2Dlicense
Record number: 74, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Cross licenses are most often made between owners of "interfering" or "blocking" patents. Such interfering or blocking patents cover different aspects of the same invention. For example, if a basic patent is owned by one party and an improvement patent on the same invention is owned by another party, a cross license is warranted because the parties must have the benefit of both patents in order to practice the improvement to its best commercial advantage. Also, inventor A may obtain a patent on item X. Inventor B may obtain a patent on item Y. Both A and B may realize that items X and Y in combination with a third item, Z, which may be in the public domain, constitute a new and useful combination, XYZ. Therefore, A and B may cross-license each other to make, use, and sell each other's patented invention so that they both can produce XYZ without incurring any liability for infringement of each other's patent. 2, record 74, English, - cross%2Dlicense

A nonexclusive license gives to a party the right to make and/or use and/or sell; however, the patent owner retains the right to practice the invention and to grant licences to any number of other parties. The nonexclusive license is merely an assurance that patent owner will not charge the licensee with infringement for any conduct that would otherwise be an infringement. If the patent owner does not sue others who are infringing the patent, the nonexclusive licensee has no right to enforce the patent against such infringers without the consent of the patent owner.

1, record 76, French, - licence%20non%20exclusive
