Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
CONT

The field of genetic research is seeing dramatic growth in the understanding of the links between genetics and disease, both in terms of predisposition for and actual incidence of disease. Such understanding is paving the way for gene replacement, gene modification and cloning.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
CONT

CONT

By combining proteins from viruses with inorganic elements commonly used as semiconductors, the UT Austin research team produced hybrid materials called electronic biocomposite materials. Biocomposite materials exist in nature in the form of such substances as shell and bone. By extending the processes that result in naturally occurring biocomposites to substances commonly used in construction of electronic components, the scientists said they are paving the way for development of a host of technological marvels-potential building blocks for transistors, wires, connectors, sensors and computer chips far smaller than anything manufactured so far.

CONT

Most people don’t think of paper as a construction material, but there are a surprising number of applications for paper in construction. Not only do many materials arrive at construction sites packaged in cardboard, but paper is also a component in wallboard, finish material such as environ biocomposite (made of soybean and newsprint fibers), roofing paper, paneling (such as gridcore ...), and flooring.

CONT

Many architects and designers are creating winning ideas with our biocomposite materials and design innovations ... We are committed to offering architects, designers and builders the materials they require to accomplish their goals - attractive, high performance environmental materials that are cost effective.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biotechnologie
  • Techniques industrielles
CONT

CONT

PROBA(Project for On-Board Autonomy) may be tiny in spacecraft terms but this European satellite is paving the way for future missions of global importance. Despite its diminutive size and weight(just 100 kg), is the first ESA spacecraft with fully autonomous capabilities, meaning it will operate virtually unaided, performing everyday tasks like navigation, payload and resource management with little involvement by staff at ESA's ground station in Redu, Belgium.

OBS

ESA mini-satellite project. Part of GSTP. Main objectives: technological + demonstration of autonomy, earth environment study, earth observation in the multi or hyper spectral field.

CONT

Air traffic is expected to show steady growth in the near future. To cope, we will have to start the construction of a new generation of equipment within the next few years. ONERA is paving the way for this changeover in two ways. First, it is developing new concepts, and even demonstrators, for transfer to manufacturers. The main development in this field is the miniature quartz accelerometer for aircraft and missiles.
