In cases in which the violent relationship between the parents involves situational couple violence or separation-instigated violence, there may not be increased risk to children in all cases, particularly if either type of violence is singular and mild. If the situational couple violence is chronic or severe, what is needed is a more nuanced analysis of the situational causes of the violence and whether it is only one or both of the parents who escalate to physical aggression. If one partner has an anger management problem, then he or she is the parent most at risk for child abuse. If the problem is one of couple communication or chronic conflict over one or several relationship issues, generalization to child abuse is unlikely. 2, record 1, English, - situational%20couple%20violence

There was cogent, if not overwhelming, evidence that Paolo was a battered child and that Marco was his abuser. On the evidence, the jury could find that the physical abuse escalated during Paolo's life and continued until very shortly before Paolo's death. There was evidence that Paolo's death was not the result of any disease process, natural causes(e. g. The analysis turns next to the particular challenge posed by cases where the person claiming self-defense is a battered intimate partner. Such cases can generally be divided into two categories. In the first category, the battered partner exercises force during an episode of physical abuse by the batterer. In the other category of cases, the partner uses deadly force against her batterer in the absence of any occurrent abuse, but in fear or anticipation of future renewed attacks. 3, record 15, English, - battered%20intimate%20partner

The question presented in many parricide cases is the admissibility of expert testimony on battered child syndrome to aid in proving the defendant's claim of self-defense. Although battered child syndrome was originally developed as a physical diagnosis for victims of continuing child abuse, it currently includes an explanation of the psychological aspects as well. [...] One striking similarity between abused children and abused women is the failure of the child or woman to strike back at the abuser. In the case of the battered woman, this failure to strike out is attributed to learned helplessness resulting from her continued abuse. Such reasoning may readily be applied to the circumstances of the battered child as well. For a child, the feelings of lack of power or control over the situation are even greater than for a grown adult in such a situation. A child has minimal ability to leave home and permanently escape the abuse. This inability to escape results in increased fear and isolation. Often the child has been battered since a very young age and remembers no other type of existence. 3, record 16, English, - battered%20child%20syndrome

The critical features that distinguish victimization from simple conflict between peers are the intention to cause harm and an imbalance of power between perpetrator and victim. In establishing Tikinagan as a Native child welfare agency, the chiefs were committed to providing services to children and families in whatever manner necessary to prevent them from becoming at risk. The IAP is the new process to help former students settle their claims for abuse they suffered at Indian residential schools. The IAP replaces the former Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) program that was previously used to settle claims. The IAP compensates former students for sexual abuse, serious physical abuse and certain other wrongful acts which caused serious psychological consequences for the individual. This is the final report of a multi-year project funded by Health Canada. The project sought to describe the social and psychological profiles of children, aged 4 to 6, at risk of physical abuse or neglect, and [to] characterize their family milieu(in terms of parental stress factors, their own abuse and attachment histories, and their expectations and perceptions of their children). It also experimented with a projective test that might be used in pre-schools and schools for the early detection of children at risk. 1, record 48, English, - %C3%89valuation%20multidimensionnelle%20des%20enfants%20victimes%20de%20n%C3%A9gligence%20et%20de%20violence

1, record 48, French, - %C3%89valuation%20multidimensionnelle%20des%20enfants%20victimes%20de%20n%C3%A9gligence%20et%20de%20violence

Ritual abuse is a brutal form of abuse of children, adolescents, and adults, consisting of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and involving the use of rituals. Ritual does not necessarily mean satanic. However, most survivors state that they were ritually abused as part of satanic worship for the purpose of indoctrinating them into satanic beliefs and practices. Ritual abuse rarely consists of a single episode. It usually involves repeated abuse over an extended period of time. 3, record 49, English, - ritual%20abuse

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The Severity of Alcohol Dependence Questionnaire(SADQ) is a short, easy to complete, self-administered, 20-item questionnaire designed to measure severity of dependence on alcohol as formulated by Edwards and Gross(1976). There are five subscales with four items in each. These are variously labeled Physical Withdrawal, Affective Withdrawal, Withdrawal Relief Drinking, Alcohol Consumption and Rapidity of Reinstatement. Each item is scored on a four-point scale, ranging from Almost Never to Almost Always, resulting in a corresponding score of 0 to 3.
