PHYSICAL BIOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTAL COMPONENTS [7 records]

Subject field(s)
  • Environmental Law
DEF

environmental criteria : Standards of physical, chemical and biological(but sometimes including social, aesthetic, etcetera) components that define a given quality of an environment.

CONT

Indicators of geobiosphere load represent a quantitative expression of what could be called ’environmental criteria’ for human decisions, behavior or action. ... Environmental criterion means that we analyze, consciously or subconsciously, the meaning, context, consequences and connections of our intended action of any kind from an environmental point of view. The universal use of such a criterion when making decisions at all levels is an indispensable prerequisite towards the attainment of sustainable development and a conscious transition toward a sustainable phase in industrial society.

OBS

criterion: term usually used in the plural (criteria).

Key term(s)
  • environmental criteria

Domaine(s)
  • Droit environnemental
OBS

A method of analysis that combines results and models from the physical, biological, economic and social sciences, and the interactions between these components, in a consistent framework, to evaluate the status and the consequences of environmental change and the policy responses to it.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gestion environnementale
DEF

Subject field(s)

CONT

Most of the scientific and technical problems associated with environmental impact assessment can ultimately be traced back to the natural variability inherent in many physical and biological phenomena. Natural systems, and components of them, are highly dynamic, and patchiness in space and variation over time is common. Often superimposed on random variations are seasonal fluctuations and multi-year cycles. Also, some variables may be on non-horizontal trajectories in the long term, that is, ’moving baselines. ’The field scientists involved in impact assessment face one of their greatest challenges in dealing with such dynamic environmental baselines.

Key term(s)
  • non-horizontal trajectories

French

Domaine(s)
  • Études et analyses environnementales
CONT
