Terry cloth. Fibre : Cotton and some linen. Weave :Pile... Characteristics : Either all over loops on both sides of the fabric or patterned loops on both sides... May be bleached, dyed, or printed. Better qualities have a close, firm underweave, with very close loops. Very absorbent, and the longer the loop, the greater the absorbency. When the pile is only on one side, it is called "Turkish toweling. "Uses : Towels, beachwear, bathrobes, all kinds of sportswear, children's wear, slip covers, and draperies.

A collective term denoting processing of carpets and textiles subsequent to tufting, weaving, and dyeing.

CONT

A stainblocking process has been developed in which pile fibre is treated with stainblocker and fluorocarbon at the yarn stage but, in the case of cut-pile carpets, the cut ends of the tufts must be protected by applying a small additional amount of chemical during carpet finishing.

OBS

Carpet finishing processes include shearing, brushing, application of secondary backing, application of attached foam cushion, application of soil retardant and antistatic chemicals, back beating, steaming, and others.

Imitation fur is made from synthetic fibre, usually acrylic or nylon pile, on a firm jersey or woven backing, with the fibres knitted directly into the cloth. Is fairly expensive, available in a in a wide range of colours and types, some deliberately imitating real fur, some blatantly unreal. Used for coats, jackets, children's coats, hats, collars, cuffs, etc.
