Whenever the pile-driving hammer reaches the bottom of the leads, it cannot be used farther unless some extension piece is added; the "follower" is such a piece. Several followers are manufactured, for use where pilling is to be driven to a top level below water ....

Domaine(s)
  • Fondations profondes
CONT

Record 6 1982-08-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cofferdams and Dewatering (Construction)
OBS

Each cell may be filled completely to the top before the construction of the next cell is started. With the straight-diaphragm type, care must be taken not to pile too much fill against one side of the diaphragm since this will distort the diaphragm from the straight line in which it best acts in tension.
