Sanitary and storm sewer systems are an integral part of an urban area. Waste treatment facilities are carefully designed for industrial, institutional, commercial, and population wastes. To ensure proper flow of waste and storm systems, pre-benched manhole bases allow smooth transition and flows at junctions, change of pipe sizes and lateral connections. The pre-benched manhole base consists of a section of monolithically poured manhole barrel with channeled concrete between the inverts of inlet/outlet pipes with a minimum slope of 25mm or 1". The channeled concrete is smooth finished and in most cases a gasketed opening is provided for the insertion of inlet/outlet pipes. The manhole base has a joint on the top to allow for riser sections to be placed to reach the installation invert. The pre-cast, pre-benched manhole base allows for a high quality and quick alternative to cast in place benching. Using pre-cast, pre-benched manhole bases minimize construction time in the field and ensures a quality, long term solution in building storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure. Most pre-benched manhole bases are custom built for the contractor where the angles between the inlet/outlet mains require specific layout. In some cases straight through, 45 or 90 degree configurations are available for standard pipe sizes of 100-200 mm.

A Y-shaped chain used to spin up(tighten) one joint of drill pipe into another. In use, one end of the chain is attached to the tongs, another end to the spinning cathead, and the third end is free. The free end is wrapped around the tool joint and the cathead pulls the chain off the joint, causing the joint to spin(turn) rapidly and tighten up. After the chain is pulled off the joint, the tongs are secured in the same spot, and continued pull on the chain(and thus on the tongs) by the cathead makes the joint up to final tightness.

Prior to insertion of the liner pipe, the existing culvert must be cleaned of all debris either by flushing or manual removal. Any rust or spalls must be cleaned and removed as well as protrusions into the pipe. A jacking pit must be constructed with adequate size to contain lengths of pipe to be inserted, grouting equipment and any other equipment necessary to perform the insertion. The liner is normally pushed into the existing culvert, but occasionally it is pulled, or a combination of pulling and pushing is used. Due to the often large pressure load needed to push the last sections of a long or heavy liner into place, pulling may be the preferred method as long as adequate provisions have been made to avoid joint separation.
