PIPE PILE [6 records]

Record 1 2003-10-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
DEF

Small-diameter pile ... most often used in underpinning.

CONT

The micro-pile differs from other steel piles as for the following properties :(i) the maximum diameter of the micropile is 300 mm, when it is installed by drilling and 150 mm when the pile is installed by driving or vibrating; and(ii) the installation has to be possible in spaces with restricted access and head room(basements). The steel pipe piles are installed by driving or vibrating, their maximum diameter is 1220 mm.

Domaine(s)
  • Fondations profondes
DEF

Record 2 1999-10-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
DEF

A bulbous enlargement at the bottom of a concrete pile.

CONT

... in forming the uncased Franki pile... a drop hammer is allowed to fall directly on a mass of concrete in the lower part of a drive pipe;... when the required depth is reached, the drive pipe is lifted slightly and held against further penetration as concrete is fed into the pipe alongside the hammer and rammed into the soil to form a pedestal.

CONT

Pedestal piles retain the good effects of the bulb of pressure formed at the bottom while driving, by formation of a bulb of hardened concrete.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fondations profondes
DEF

Record 3 1999-10-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
DEF

Cast-in-place concrete pile constructed so that concrete is forced out into a widened bulb or pedestal shape at the foot of the pipe that forms the pile.

DEF

Pile designed to retain permanently the good resistance effects of the temporary bulbs of pressure formed during driving by forming a concrete bulb that hardens.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
CONT

The allowable compressive stresses in pile materials shall not exceed the values in Table 4.2.5.A. ... Concrete ... cast in-situ in steel pipes left in place ...

CONT

The concrete of a cased pile is cast inside a form that usually consists of a metal shell or thin pipe left in the ground.

Record 5 1999-03-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deep Foundations
CONT

"Dry boring" methods employ the use of a temporary casing to seal the pile bore through water-bearing or unstable strata overlying suitable stable material. Upon reaching the design depth a reinforcing cage is introduced, concrete is placed in the bore and bought up to the required level. The casing is then withdrawn. "Wet" boring also employs a temporary casing through unstable ground and is used when the pile bore cannot be sealed against water ingress. Boring is then undertaken using a digging bucket to drill through the underlying soils to design depth. The reinforcing cage is lowered into the bore and concrete is placed by tremmie pipe, following which extraction of the temporary casing takes place.

OBS

Mandrel-driven Thin-walled Pipe Piles. These Armco piles consist of a lower pipe section of constant length, driven onto a mechanically locking base, and an upper section of about 3/4-in.-smaller diameter. A welded collar on the lower pipe fills the space between the pile shafts, and together they form a driving shoulder.

OBS
