POINT DISCONTINUITY [3 records]

Record 1 2016-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mathematics
OBS

If [a discontinuous] function can be made continuous at the point [of discontinuity] by being given a new value at the point, then the discontinuity is removable(...).

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
DEF

Gel electrophoresis in which a discontinuity of pH or gel pore size is introduced near the point of origin producing a very thin starting zone and sharp separations.

CONT

The cross-linked polymer most commonly employed for enzyme entrapment is polyacrylamide gel, and it has been used for the immobilization of many enzymes. The procedure for the formation of polyacrylamide gel is identical to that employed for the preparation of gel commonly used for disc electrophoresis.

OBS

The term "disc" was originally proposed by the inventor primarily to express the idea of discontinuity, secondarily to reflect the discoid shape of the separate bands.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sciences biologiques
DEF

A déconseiller.

Record 3 1975-03-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aerodynamics and Theory of Gases
  • Flights (Air Transport)
CONT

If at some point, the local velocity becomes equal to the speed of sound, the pressure disturbances cannot propagate forwards; they build up to form a surface of discontinuity of pressure and density known as a shock wave.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Théorie des gaz et aérodynamique
  • Vols (Transport aérien)
CONT
