POINT ELECTRODE [7 records]

Record 1 2014-01-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A molecular device capable of converting energy into movement and able to generate forces on the order of piconewtons.

CONT

The nanomotor has a positioning stroke up to some centimeters while operating with atomic resolution and thus builds a bridge over eight orders of magnitude. The nanomotor is a piezo driven linear motor consisting of a cylindrical housing and a slider with a free axial hole inside. It utilizes a piezo tube for fine positioning and a pulse wave produced by the same piezo tube for coarse movements. Every point of its stroke can be reached with a speed of up to 5 mm/s. In its free axial hole the nanomotor can transport a tip, a hose, an electrode, a hypodermic needle, a glass fiber or even a microgripper. The nanomotor is available in three different versions. The "small" nanomotor is half the size of a match stick. It can lift six times of its own mass. The dynamic force of this nanomotor is so high, that even imprints in diamond surfaces can be produced. Special versions of the nanomotor can operate in ultra high vacuum, in liquid helium, even under water or as non-magnetic drives.

PHR

Primer, virus nanomotor.

PHR

Nanotube nanomotor.

Key term(s)
  • nano-motor

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Vacuum Tubes (Electronics)
DEF

The voltage between electrode and the cathode or a specified point of a filamentary cathode.

OBS

The terms "grid voltage", "anode voltage", "plate voltage", etc. designate the voltage between these electrodes and the cathode. Unless otherwise stated, electrode voltages are mesured at the available terminals.

Subject field(s)
  • Electrochemistry
  • Electrometallurgy
DEF

The difference in electronic energy between a point inside the metal(Fermi level) of an electrode and a point outside the electrolyte in which the electrode is submerged.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électrochimie
  • Électrométallurgie
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
DEF

Solution titration in which the end point is read from the electrode-potential variations with the concentrations of potential-determining ions, following the Nernst concept.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Welding and Soldering (Metals)
CONT

A real-time digital video-image-processing system contributes to the automation of weld-seam tracking. The tracking system makes no contact with the seam. A small television camera views the seam just ahead of the point currently being welded. The welding arc provides the illumination. Periodically, a frame grabber digitizes the video image and stores it in a computer memory as gray-scale values. The seam is located by analyzing Hough-transform arrays of derivatives of digitally-filtered image data. The information on the location and orientation of the seam is used as feedback by a welding robot to correct deviations of the electrode from the seam as welding continues.
