Normal thermal stratification of a pond, if it is to occur, generally begins in May or early June and ends in September or early October. Ponds can stratify because water attains maximum density at 39°F. It becomes less dense (lighter in weight) both above and below 39°F. Soon after the ice melts in the early spring, the water temperature throughout the pond rises to 32°F. Winds blowing across the pond’s surface cause the water to pile up on the downwind side. The water moves downward, across the pond bottom, to the upwind side. The entire pond begins to circulate from top to bottom, maintaining a uniform temperature. As long as winds are strong enough, the pond temperature will remain uniform, even as the pond begins to warm during spring. This is a period known as "spring overturn." 5, record 10, English, - spring%20overturn
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 2 CONT
When surface water reaches 39 degrees in spring, it becomes heavier than the water immediately below it and therefore sinks. The downward movement of surface water forces water in the deeper parts of the lake upward. The resulting circulation of water is called spring turnover. Spring winds also help promote water circulation. 2, record 10, English, - spring%20overturn
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 OBS
turnover : A phenomenon usually occurring in spring and fall because of the increase in density of water above and below the temperature of minimum density. In the spring, as the surface of the water warms above the freezing point, the water increases in density, becomes heavier, and tends to sink, producing vertical currents, while in the fall, as the surface water becomes colder and therefore heavier, it also tends to sink. Also see overturning. 6, record 10, English, - spring%20overturn

The decline in the deficit-to-GDP ratio over time is achieved largely through expenditure reductions. There is a 1. 3 percentage point fall in the program spending-to-GDP ratio from 1993-94 to 1995-96 and, revenues as a share of GDP, adjusted for one-time factors in 1993-94, rise only marginally over time. Although the net debt-to-GDP ratio continues to rise over the 1993-94 to 1995-96 period, the rate of increase slows dramatically in 1995-96, setting the stage for declines in future years. 2, record 15, English, - program%20spending%2Dto%2DGDP%20ratio

Some water level recorders utilize a float on the surface of the water which is attached to a moveable gear in the recorder. A rise or fall of the water surface causes the float to rise or fall. This rotates the gear and the movement is recorded. Other water level gauges monitor either relative or absolute pressure at a point under the water surface. This pressure measurement can then be converted to height of the water surface. Leaks... fall into two basic types : internal leakage [such] as a thin oil film is built into the working parts of a hydraulic system. This lubricates the mating surfaces of valve spools, cylinder pistons, and other moving parts. Oil is not lost through this normal internal leakage since it eventually returns to the system reservoir. However, too much internal leakage will slow the operation of the system and waste power through the generation of heat. In some cases, it may cause cylinders to creep or drift. Or it may cause loss of oil control in the valves.... External oil leaks not only look bad-they can be expensive and hazardous.... A small leak can also be the signal for a hydraulic rupture that may injure a person while putting the machine out of operation.... Every joint in a hydraulic circuit is a potential point of leakage. This is why the number of connections in a system is kept at a minimum. Components can leak, but care in assembly and use of new seals and gaskets during overhaul will help to reduce this problem. 2, record 22, English, - leak

Most diagrams of boiling kettles show a straight-sided kettle with a round bottom and interior steam jackets/coils. Some are also direct-fired. However, one diagram shows the same type of kettle, sans steam internal steam coils or flame. This one draws from the bottom of the tank and pumps the wort through an external housing containing steam coils(called a calandria). The wort is then passed back through the MIDDLE of the tank(below the wort level) and shot through a "boiling fountain" to a point above the wort level where it is dispersed by an adjustable spreader and allowed to fall onto the surface of the wort. 3, record 30, English, - boiling%20fountain

More specifically, I conjecture that a drop of water falling at random is almost certain to fall within a cup. If this conjecture is correct, the cups’ surfaces are a wild extrapolate of the terraced fields in southeast Asia. I call them Devil' s terraces. The points which fail to fall within cups form the cups’ cumulative coastline, and add up to a ramified net, a random form of the Sierpinski gasket. If I am wrong and the cups’ cumulative coastline is in fact of positive rather than zero area, my fallback conjecture is that there is a cup arbitrarily close to every point that does not lie in a cup. 1, record 37, English, - devil%27s%20terrace

During delignification, there is also a corresponding reduction in pulp viscosity.... If pulp viscosity is allowed to fall below a critical level, the pulp strength drops dramatically. Maintenance of pulp viscosity is the principal reason that the kraft cook must be terminated at a point where a substantial level of residual lignin remains with the fibers. A derivation termed the G-factor(exactly analogous to the H-factor) can be applied for viscosity reduction, i. e., combinations of time and temperature that give the same G-factor can be expected to produce pulp with the same viscosity. Since the G-factor increases more rapidly with temperature than the H-factor, it follows that higher cooking temperatures have a proportionally greater effect on viscosity reduction. 1, record 39, English, - G%2Dfactor

1, record 47, French, - voyant%20d%27avertissement%20de%20bas%20r%C3%A9gime
