Ear Initiation & Size Determination in Corn... Ear shoots are initiated at stalk nodes very early in the corn plant's development.... By about the V5 or V6 stages of development(five to six visible leaf collars), the growing point(apical meristem) of the corn plant finishes the task of initiating leaf primordia and completes its developmental responsibilities by initiating the tassel primordium of the plant. 2, record 1, English, - ear%20initiation

There are three different frames(starting a codon with the first, second, or third nucleotide). Generally, only one frame encodes a polypeptide; this frame is specified by the location of the initiation codon of the polypeptide. The deletion or addition of a nucleotide throws off the frame after that point, making non-sense of the remaining code; this is called a frameshift mutation. 1, record 3, English, - reading%20frame

The final phase of rendezvous operations begins about three hours prior to Atlantis’ docking with the ISS [International Space Station]. Atlantis will approach the ISS from below, in what is referred to as a plus-R bar approach, to minimize the effects of jet thruster firings on the station and its solar arrays. About 40 minutes before the terminal initiation burn(Ti burn) when Atlantis moves within 135, 000 feet of the station, the shuttle's rendezvous radar system is activated to provide supplemental navigation information. Prior to initiating the Ti burn, the crew will power on the ODS [Orbital Docking System] and activate Atlantis's docking lights. A series of course correction burns will bring Atlantis to a point almost directly below and behind the station, at which point Commander Ken Cockrell initiates the manual portion of his approach to the ISS. Atlantis will intercept the R-bar about 700 feet below the station. Cockrell will slowly move Atlantis to a point about 600 feet below the station before performing a 180 degree yaw maneuver to position Atlantis in a "tail forward" attitude for the final approach and docking. 3, record 9, English, - rendezvous

«Combat persistence» as used here means the number of steady-state turns that can be accomplished at the flight condition of altitude and Mach number. These data assume the aircraft to be full of fuel at the initiation of combat. Again, one sees that the larger number of turns is achieved at speeds near the cruise speed; the airframe is efficient near cruise speed. The engines were specifically designed and chosen to match this point of airframe efficiency. Further the speed at which sufficient combat persistence is obtained for a "sensible" fight(allowing at least three turns) lie below Mach 1. 1, record 11, English, - combat%20persistence
