The reverse thrust system provides means of decelerating aircraft during the landing roll, thus reducing landing roll length. The thrust reverser units are attached at the turbine outlet case of each engine.... The reversers are controlled by reverse thrust levers and operated by 13th stage engine bleed air. When not in use, the reversers are held in the locked position by 13th stage air and a mechanical lock. Each engine throttle has an additional handle which is used to actuate the thrust reversers. The reverse thrust lever pivots about a point near to the top of the throttle. If reverse trust is required, the throttle must be retarded to closed and then the reverse thrust lever must be pulled up. Further aft movement of the lever will increase reverse thrust.

The Doppler effect on sound waves is experienced in everyday life. When an ambulance passes us, the siren appears to change its note. As it approaches, the pitch is high. As it passes us, the pitch falls. The effect occurs with any type of waves, including light. In the case of sound the effect was described by Christian Andreas Doppler (1803-1853), while for the light it was observed by Armand Fizeau (1819-1896). That’s why sometimes the effect is called the Doppler-Fizeau effect.

The main advantage of a focused synthetic aperture is that it increases its array length over those radar signals that can be processed, and thus increases potential SAR resolution at any range. SAR focusing is a necessary process when the length of a synthetic array is a significant fraction of the range to ground being imaged, as the lines-of-sight(range) from a particular point on the ground to each individual element of the array differ in distance. These range differences, or path length differences, of the radar signals can affect image quality. Paramètre de longueur caractéristique relié à l'effet de la rugosité de surface dans un flux complètement turbulent.

La hauteur de mélange correspond à l'épaisseur de la couche atmosphérique près du sol dans laquelle les polluants peuvent se disperser en quelques heures. Deux principaux mécanismes permettent aux polluants de se disperser rapidement dans la verticale : la turbulence thermique et la turbulence mécanique. La turbulence thermique se produit lorsque l'air est moins dense près du sol, par exemple lors d'une journée ensoleillée et chaude. La turbulence mécanique est due à la variation verticale du vent et elle augmente lorsque les vents sont forts et que la surface du sol est rugueuse. Le programme d'Environnement Canada qui estime la hauteur de mélange, [...] comporte maintenant certains paramètres d'ajustement, dont le principal est celui de la longueur de rugosité. La valeur de ce paramètre dépend de l'environnement dans un rayon de 5 km du site modélisé. Par exemple, la longueur de rugosité en milieu fortement urbanisé est d'environ 1 m, tandis qu'elle est de quelques centimètres au-dessus de surfaces gazonnées. Il est important de noter que les vitesses de vent aux stations météorologiques synoptiques (situées dans les aéroports) sont généralement mesurées au-dessus de surfaces dont la longueur de rugosité est petite (quelques cm). Si les vents étaient mesurés au-dessus de surfaces très rugueuses, leurs valeurs seraient beaucoup plus faibles.

A borehole-surveying device consisting of a gimbal-mounted open frame, rigidly enclosing a graduated circle inside of which is a gimbal-mounted compass. This assemblage, inserted in a glass tube filled with a melted gelatin mixture is placed inside a tightly sealed brass tube or clinometer. When the tube is lowered into, and suspended at a point in a borehole for a sufficient length of time to allow the gelatin to set or jell, the position of the gimbal parts becomes fixed in the solidified gelatin, thereby providing a means whereby the compass course and inclination of the borehole at a specific point may be determined.
