CONT

SASHAY... This is primarily a CFS [Canopy Formation Skydiving] technique intended for losing altitude quickly. It has the effect of diminishing the forward movement and expending altitude. To execute the technique, depress one of the steering toggles to its maximum extent; then at the point where your body has been swung to the side, return the toggle to its up position.

DEF

A scoring system in which a maximum of 7 points(sum of the scores of both players) constitutes a game. In such a system the traditional way of keeping score, i. e. 15-30-40 may be replaced with 1-2-3, or the traditional way may be retained until the score reaches 3-3(=40-all or "deuce"), in which case the next point is to be the game point for both sides, with the receiver to elect which side(s) he will return the serve. The purpose of using this system is to limit the number of deuces that can occur in the game, hence speeding up the match overall.

OBS

James H. Van Alen developed two systems to speed up play, one for tennis, often called the "no-ad game", amd a similar one for table tennis, each of which are referred to as a "Van Alen Simplified Scoring System (VASS)".

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
CONT

Radar bearing is determined by the echo signal strength as the radiated energy lobe moves past the target. Since search radar antennas move continuously, the point of maximum echo return is determined either by the detection circuitry as the beam passes the target or visually by the operator.

CONT

CONT

The maxima search techniques that have been applied are Markovian(alopex), or close to it(simplex), and so inadequately exploit data already gathered. Both techniques, when successful, return a single point in stimulus space-the mean or a local maximum of the response-function-when we may be more interested in the shape of the function.

The principle of increasing and decreasing returns... is a variation of the principle of balance. It affirms that larger and larger amounts of agents in production will produce larger and larger net returns up to a certain point at which the maximum value will have been developed, and beyond which any additional investment will not produce a return commensurate with the investment.

OBS

DEF

A valuation principle which states that when successive increments of one or more factors of production are added to fixed amounts of the other factors there is a resulting enhancement of income(in dollars, benefits, or amenities), initially at an increasing rate to a point of maximum return and then decreasing until eventually the increment to value becomes increasingly less than the value of the added factor(or factors).
