Removing Scratches in Auto Body Finish.... After the scratches had been sanded out and the surface rinsed clean, the car was ready to be buffed with rubbing compound. There are two buffing procedures : Rubbing compound and polishing compound. Rubbing compound has a coarser grit than polishing compound, so rubbing compound is applied first.... The rubbing compound leaves an invisible residue, which needs to be either washed off or wiped off immediately with a good quality automotive polishing cloth. DO NOT use paper towels because most paper is too abrasive. All of the excess compound needs to be removed before going on to the polishing step or else the coarser grit particles will get mixed in with the polishing compound. 3, record 25, English, - polishing%20compound

There are two different commercial wheat debranning systems, the Tkac(1992) procedure and the ’PeriTec' process, marketed by Satake Corporation(McGee 1995). In both processes the wheat bran layers are removed by successive passages through modified rice polishers. A short conditioning period(3 to 5 min) is used to ensure that water penetrates into the outer regions only of the seed coat. Abrasion is used first in the Satake process, followed by friction, as in rice polishing. In the Tkac system the outer layers are removed first by friction passages followed by abrasion passages. 4, record 34, English, - debranning%20of%20wheat

8, record 35, French, - papier%20abrasif

Self-polishing copolymer(SPC) antifoulings release biocides via a hydrolysis reaction of an acrylic polymer with seawater. This is a chemical reaction and only occurs at the surface of the coating. "Controlled solubility copolymers" or "self-polishing copolymers(SPC) "are modern coatings in which, initially for TBT [tributyltin] paints, the biocide was chemically part of the paint matrix or resin, for example the copolymer tributylin methacrylate. When immersed, hydrolysis caused the copolymer to cleave, or hydrolyse, splitting the copolymer into a TBT(the biocide) and an acrylate(the resin) component. The TBT then released and acted as a biocide, the acrylate dissolved to ablate the paint. TBT-free SPCs have now been developed which use copper, zinc or silyl acrylate copolymers. 5, record 49, English, - self%2Dpolishing%20copolymer%20antifouling%20paint

With this technique, it is possible to control the width, length, and depth of the nanochannels without the need for nanolithography. The use of sacrificial SiO2 layers allows the fabrication of centimeter-long nanochannels.... We have successfully fabricated an array of extremely long and narrow nanochannels(i. e. 10 mm long, 25 nm wide and 100 nm deep) with smooth inner surfaces. 2, record 53, English, - nanochannel

2, record 53, French, - nanocanal

Electrolytic polishing is a process in which metal from the object being treated is dissolved as a result of electric current. The object is for this purpose placed in a special electrically conductive solution. Electrolytic polishing is therefore the opposite of electroplating. In electroplating dissolved metal ions are deposited on the metal surface. In electrolytic polishing the object is partially dissolved causing metals in the form of metal ions to dissolve. 4, record 72, English, - electro%2Dpolishing

Polishing and planarization are related in that polishing improves the flatness(planarity), smoothness and optical properties of a surface. Planarization, however, is a much more critical process. Integrated circuit(IC) manufacturers must planarize each surface layer of an in-process wafer to make it level for the next application of microlithography. Chemical mechanical planarization(CMP) is used during the semiconductor manufacturing process to planarize individual layers in complex integrated circuits to customer-specific parameters. 2, record 80, English, - chemical%20mechanical%20planarization

Mint lustre or bloom is somewhat frosty in appearance as opposed to the mirror-like smoothness of the field of a proof. Since the lustre of a coin can vary considerably due to factors such as wear, polishing of dies or blanks, exposure to chemicals, humidity, or temperature extremes, etc., it is an important indicator of the condition or grade of a coin. The qualities of lustre are often described by such adjectives as fiery, frosty, light frost, heavy frost, satiny, flat looking, matte, semi-matte, and so on. Although normally brilliant, with time, lustre may become dull, spotted, or discoloured. Lustre is easily worn through with the slightest amount of circulation and strong chemical cleaners will destroy it.
