English

Subject field(s)
  • Industrial Tools and Equipment
  • Diamond Industry
DEF

The process of smoothing the polishing rings after applying the wet diamond powder mixture.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Outillage industriel

Record 4 2003-05-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
  • Wood Finishing
  • Glass Polishing
  • Surface Treatment of Metals
CONT

German piano finishers and others used this technique for final polishing. Take sulfuric acid and add it to water (1 part to 10 parts water). ... Sprinkle Vienna chalk (a nasty feeling and smelling fine grit compound) on the work piece. Pour some of the acid solution into the palm of the hand and rub the solution and chalk onto your workpiece creating a paste, which when dried can be wiped off.

CONT

Cleaning of Optics. This includes the output window and rear mirror.... Polishing with Vienna chalk.... Do not use Vienna chalk with coated optics. To use Vienna chalk, lay down some tissues and put about half a teaspoon of the powder on the tissues. Add a few drops of water or alcohol and mix to form a slurry. Place the face to be cleaned on the slurry and polish with a gentle circular motion.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie
  • Finition du bois
  • Polissage du verre
  • Traitements de surface des métaux
CONT

CONT

Poudres de polissage. [...] Magnésie, oxyde de magnésium carbonisé. [...] Chaux de Vienne.

Record 6 1993-08-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optical Glass
CONT

It is customary to process optical elements in multiples by fastening or blocking a suitable number on a common support.

OBS

Lens surfaces are ground on an iron tool, either flat or suitably curved, using progressively finer grades of wet emery or carborundum powder as abrasives. A number of fine-ground lens blanks are then mounted with pitch on a block... so that they can be polished together. The polishing tool is covered with a thin layer of pitch, wax, or even coarse cloth. Wet rouge or certain other mineral oxides are used as polishing materials.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Verres d'optique
DEF

(Polir une lentille) à l'aide d'une pâte abrasive.

CONT
