There are dops especially for polishing tables, the so-called soap dops. They have a soft copper stalk and on the sides of the head a clamp to hold the small hollow metal pots. Nowadays the soap is replaced by special products, either pastes which stay soft or liquids which harden when the stone is heated while running on the wheel.

Any process such as buffing, burnishing, polishing, acid treatment or wire brushing used for the purpose of improving the surface of a coins, medals, or tokens. Most whizzed coins have an unnaturally shiny appearance produced by the abrasive action of the buffing wheel, scour pad or substance used on the coin. Coins are also whizzed to remove or reduce unsightly problems(abrasions), or to mask the effects of adding or removing a mint mark or altering a date. Since whizzed coins lose significant market value, they must be advertised as such when offered for sale.

Le polissage s'effectue à l'aide de polissoirs, constitués par des disques métalliques garnis de feutres, qui frottent la surface de la glace avec interposition d'une potée d'oxyde rouge de fer. Le polissage fait intervenir à la fois une très fine abrasion et un déplacement moléculaire tendant à reformer la peau du verre.

Les meules (...) sont maintenant à base de grains d'abrasifs artificiels (corindon, carbure de silicium, diamant, etc.), qui ont remplacé les abrasifs naturels (...).
