As part of the smartHarbour initiative, the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) is collaborating with Public Services and Procurement Canada(PSPC) and the Montreal Port Authority(MPA) to develop innovative applications using satellite data as part of the Port of Montreal expansion in Contrecœur. These applications would allow for tracking of different environmental variables that are important for conserving the biodiversity of natural habitats, both while the new MPA terminal is being built and afterwards.

The national portfolio also includes central heating and cooling plants, engineering assets(for example, bridges and dams) and housing.

The Article Procurement with Online Local Ordering(APOLLO) project was undertaken by the CEC and the European Space Agency(ESA), European Telecommunications Satellite Organisation(EUTELSAT), Conférence Européenne des administrations des Postes et Télécommunications(CEPT), and interested Post, Telegraph and Telephone(PTT) Administrations. The project centred around the electronic delivery of documents using high speed digital satellite links provided by the European Communications Satellite and aimed to overcome the slow delivery of material from remote sources.
