Active inspection techniques measure [either] delayed radiation, differential die-away, or prompt neutrons. Prompt neutrons are immediately emitted when fission occurs, as opposed to delayed low-energy neutrons and gamma rays, which are emitted by the fission products anywhere from milliseconds to seconds after the fission event. The differential die-away technique pulses neutrons into the cargo and monitors perturbations(if any) in the die-away characteristics of the normal neutron fluence rate that occur between neutron pulses. 3, record 5, English, - differential%20die%2Daway%20technique

A self-powered neutron detector has a neutron-sensitive emitter, a collector enclosing this emitter and insulation between these two components. When irradiated by neutrons, the emitter generates Compton electrons so that a current is produced between the emitter and electrode and which may be used with a current-measuring device to provide a readout. The emitter is enclosed and electrically connected with a metal which is substantially neutron-insensitive so that the detector provides a substantially true and prompt signal accurately reflecting the neutron flux density received by the detector. 1, record 6, English, - shielded%2Demitter%20neutron%20detector
