The geometry tutor(Anderson, Boyle, & Yoost, 1985) is built on the same basic design as the Lisp tutor. The student's activity in that case is to construct a geometry proof by successively applying geometric theorems, and the tutor compares his steps to a large knowledge base consisting of both correct and incorrect problem-solving rules. The tutor intervenes when the student applies an incorrect rule, i. e., makes illegal or useless moves in the space of possible inferences. 3, record 2, English, - geometry%20tutor

the Press System will be implicitly applying a rewrite rule to an expression, the result being the binding of RHS. This constitutes a step in the object-level search. As the meta-level inference continues(top-down) continues, it experiments with different object-level steps(bottom-up) and if successful finds a proof or solution at the object-level. By this technique each object-level decision can be based on an arbitrary amount of inference at the meta-level. 1, record 7, English, - object%2Dlevel%20search

Liability to capture. It was Lord Stowell who introduced in prize law the rule that forfeiture of the neutral vessel can only follow upon proof of knowledge by the shipowner of the contraband nature of the cargo. The true test of liability to capture was, in Lord Stowell' s view, the state of mind of the neutral claimant :... The Declaration of London elected to rest the principle of confiscation not on the knowledge of the owner, but on the relative proportion of contraband to the whole cargo. The ship is involved in all cases where she carries contraband goods which either in value, weight, quantity or freight exceed half of the whole cargo... 1, record 8, English, - liability%20to%20capture
