PROPAGATION LOSS [5 records]

Record 1 2021-07-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optical Telecommunications
  • Optics
CONT

Optical path loss is used to measure the attenuation of the transmitted beams, attributed to propagation in the free space and reflection components.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télécommunications optiques
  • Optique

Record 2 2021-04-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Deterioration of Metals
  • Materials Engineering
  • Construction Methods
  • Restoration of Works of Art (Museums and Heritage)
CONT

The corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete structures induced by chloride ion contamination is a major problem. Deterioration starts with the loss of protection provided by the concrete cover as the result of chloride ingress. This is followed by corrosion initiation and then propagation.

Domaine(s)
  • Altération des métaux
  • Génie des matériaux
  • Procédés de construction

Record 3 2019-10-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Acoustics (Physics)
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
  • Commercial Fishing
CONT

The propagation characteristics of ultrasound in sea water and its ultrasonic reflection loss on the sea bottom or on fish schools must be studied for both the design and the practical operation of echo sounders, fish finders... The propagation attenuation in a direction vertical to the sea surface is the result mainly of spherical divergence, but the attenuation in a horizontal direction is caused partly by absorption as well. This absorption becomes larger at higher frequencies...

Record 4 2005-10-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft
CONT

In-orbit calibration requires having the knowledge to the requested accuracy of the following parameters at the time of radar sensing for a data take : Antenna Radiation Patterns [;] Antenna Pointing(i. e. the reference frame of the radiation pattern) [;] Absolute Gain(i. e. instrument and atmospheric effect) for absolute radiometry [;] Polarimetric characteristics(i. e. crosspolarisation and imbalance effects) [;] Variations of these parameters during the data taking [-] the short-term Instrument Stability Tracking. With the exception of the atmospheric effect on propagation loss and polarimetric imbalances, the rest of the parameters fall in the category of instrument calibration.

OBS

in-orbit calibration: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

The actual propagation loss, for a given length of water path, in excess of that calculated for spherical divergence over the same path or for some other stated rule.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
