PROPAGATION TECHNIQUE [7 records]

Record 1 2026-02-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Engineering Tests and Reliability
  • Security
  • Nuclear Plant Safety
DEF

An inductive technique that starts by hypothesizing the occurence of basic postulated initiating events and proceeds through their logical propagation to system failure events.

CONT

An event tree analysis ... shows all possible outcomes resulting from an accidental (initiating) event, taking into account whether installed safety barriers are functioning or not ...

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fiabilité, contrôle et essais (Ingénierie)
  • Sécurité
  • Sûreté des centrales nucléaires
DEF

Record 3 2005-08-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Calculating Procedures (Mathematics)
  • Acoustics (Physics)
CONT

The element-free Galerkin method is a method which... uses nodal points, but where the use of a connectivity is absent. Displacements and stresses in the material domain are approximated by means of a connectivity-free technique known as moving least squares approximation. This technique requires, besides the nodal data, a set of weight functions and a set of basic functions. Since the growth of crack surfaces can be reflected without changing a connectivity of nodes, it is possible to simulate crack propagation without remeshing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Procédés de calcul (Mathématiques)
  • Acoustique (Physique)
CONT

Record 4 2003-02-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Space Physics
CONT

The method of enhanced microwave scattering is based on the measurement of the signal, which is Back Scattered(BS) in the Upper Hybrid Resonance(UHR) vicinity. At first this technique was applied to small-scale oscillations and waves investigations in quiet plasma of linear laboratory devices. But now this method is introduced for a study of plasma small-scale turbulence and wave propagation in the tokamak plasma.

Record 6 1999-08-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geological Research and Exploration
  • Seismic Prospecting
DEF

An exploration technique utilizing the variation in the rate of propagation of shock waves in layered media. It is used primarily to delineate subsurface structures of possible economic importance. It is employed most frequently by the petroleum industry.

CONT

Related to seismic method are the acoustic methods that use sound-wave echoes for mapping the bottom contours of bodies of water.

CONT

Other methods are also used in geophysical exploration. Acoustics methods are applied to determining ocean depths by echo sounding.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Recherches et prospections géologiques
  • Prospection sismique
DEF

Record 7 1994-05-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mathematical Geography
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

The process of determining the relative difference in position between two marks with greater precision than that to which the position of a single point can be determined.

OBS

Here, a receiver(antenna) is placed over each spot and measurements are made by observing the same satellites at the same time. This technique allows cancellation(during computations) of all errors which are common to both observers, such as satellite clock errors, propagation delays, etc. See also Translocation and Differential Navigation.

OBS

Term and definition provided by the Canadian Hydrographic Service.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géographie mathématique
  • Télédétection
DEF
