A chemical compound which appears under the form of a noncombustible, asphyxiating, colourless, sweet-tasting gas, is soluble in alcohol, ether, and concentrated sulfuric acid, is slightly soluble in water, is derived by thermal decomposition of ammonium nitrate, controlled reduction of nitriles or nitrates, supports combustion, can form explosive mixture with air, narcotic in high concentration, and is used as an anesthetic in dentistry and surgery, a propellant gas in food aerosols, and for leak detection. 9, record 5, English, - dinitrogen%20oxide
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Nitrous oxide is destroyed by ultraviolet light and has a 150-year residence time in the atmosphere. Concentrations of nitrous oxide are increasing presently at about 0.3%, or 0.7 ppb [part per billion], per year. Few modern pesticides are usable in the technical form. Generally, the chemical is extended or diluted, thereby enabling a more economic coverage of the area or a reduction in the possibility of damage to vegetation. This is usually done by mixing the technical material with a neutral carrier. The carrier may be a liquid in which the pesticide is dissolved or suspended, or it may be an inert dust or granule. 3, record 8, English, - carrier

This type of spray can is a canister containing liquid under pressure from pressurized vapor in equilibrium with another liquid, which often also dissolves the payload. When the can's valve is opened, the liquid is forced out of a small hole and emerges as an aerosol or mist. As gas expands to drive out the payload, some propellant evaporates inside the can to maintain an even pressure. Outside the can, the droplets of propellant evaporate rapidly, leaving the payload suspended as very fine particles or droplets. 2, record 14, English, - aerosol%20spray

The Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) is a European cargo supply vehicle to be used for the International Space Station (ISS). It will be launched by an Ariane-5 Rocket from Kourou in French Guiana. The first ATV is scheduled to be launched to the ISS in 2003. The European Space Agency (ESA) is to launch 9 Ariane-5’s between 2003 and 2014 carrying ATV’s. Each 20 tonne ATV will be placed in 300 km, 51.6 degrees orbit and will then manoeuvre to rendezvous and dock with the ISS. The ATV will provide unpressurized cargo, including propellant and cargo stored in its pressurized compartment including payloads and experiments. The ATV will also provide an orbital reboosting capability for the ISS and will later be filled with trash and waste which will be disposed of during a controlled, destructive re-entry. 5, record 17, English, - automatic%20transfer%20vehicle

In a preferred embodiment, the dessert according to the invention is an aerated dessert. The tem "aerated" means that the dessert is expanded in volume by the incorporation of gas, in particular nitrogen or air. This can be achieved by beating, whipping, aerating or by subjecting the dessert formulation to the action of a propellant, e. g. by incorporating the dessert formulation in an aerosol. Examples of such products are mousses and cremes, such as creme liegeoise, vanilla mousse, chocolate mousse, decoration cream, Bavarian cream, yoghurt mousse, quark mousse. 2, record 23, English, - aerated%20dessert

Solar Thermal Propulsion(STP)... uses large area deployable concentrators to focus the Sun's energy on a small heat exchanger, called an absorber, which is cooled by hydrogen gas propellant. The absorber transfers the concentrated heat energy from the Sun to the hydrogen gas. As the gas is heated, it expands and is directed outward through a nozzle. This expanding gas provides enough thrust in the microgravity environment of low earth orbit to transfer the vehicle to a higher energy, geosynchronous orbit around the Earth where the satellite operates. 2, record 26, English, - solar%20thermal%20propulsion

In nuclear thermal propulsion, a propellant gas is heated as it flows through the core of a nuclear reactor and is then expanded and expelled through a rocket nozzle. The reactor core can be a solid(e. g., uranium carbide particles in a graphite matrix or uranium nitride in a ceramic matrix), liquid, or a gas/plasma. The last two approaches can produce much higher propellant temperatures, resulting in higher specific impulse and greater rocket efficiency. 2, record 27, English, - nuclear%2Dthermal%20propulsion

Ballistite is a double-base powder used as a rocket propellant. It is composed of two explosive substances, nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin, blended together with diphenylamine, which acts as a stabilizer. It burns with a considerable amount of flash and smoke, and generates a great volume of gas. Ballistite burns progressively, but at a rate dependent upon the composition and physical characteristics of the powder grain, the temperature of the powder grain before ignition, and the pressure during reaction. It is produced in various shapes to fit the rocket motor housing. 2, record 28, English, - ballistite
