Physical research chemist at DuPont's Experimental Station using an analog computer to determine the temperature characteristics of a bar of silicon. It is undergoing refinement by the floating zone technique which involves gradual moving of the silicon through a furnace so that a small part of the bar is molten at a time. 1, record 1, English, - physical%20research%20chemist

Realizing that this discovery [the transverse-excitation technique] had just paved the way to a new generation of high-energy-pulse lasers at high repetition rates, DREV [Defence Research Establishment, Valcartier] decided to formalize under project LOTION all research efforts directed to the refinement of the novel transverse-excitation technique for CO2 lasers... Project LOTION was terminated in January 1970 with the public disclosure of the DREV TEA-CO2 laser. 1, record 2, English, - project%20LOTION

Foundation research results in new knowledge and/or techniques that are required as building blocks for other types of research within CCI [Canadian Conservation Institute] their own, answer a conservation question. Foundation research at CCI normally involves either the study of materials(in order to understand the chemical and physical properties of heritage materials) or the development or refinement of scientific methods that are required for other research. Examples of our foundation research include a study of iron corrosion mechanisms, and the development of a technique to measure the degree of polymerization of cellulose in paper. 1, record 3, English, - foundation%20research

1, record 3, French, - recherche%20fondatrice

DNA testing : In little more than a decade, DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid) evidence has become the foremost forensic technique for identifying perpetrators, and eliminating suspects, when biological tissues such as saliva, skin, blood, hair, or semen are left at a crime scene.... Over the years, the technology has undergone rapid change and refinement that has increased both its capability to obtain meaningful results from old evidence samples and its discriminatory capabilities. 2, record 4, English, - DNA%20testing
