REFINER MECHANICAL PULP [8 records]

Record 1 2002-07-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pulp and Paper
DEF

Mechanical pulp made by processing wood chips or sawdust through a refiner.

OBS

Hitherto commonly, but incorrectly known in English as "refiner groundwood pulp".

OBS

refiner mechanical pulp : term standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pâtes et papier
DEF

CONT

There are so many variations of these ’RMP’ [refiner mechanical pulp] processes and acronyms for them such as CTMP [chemithermomechanical pulp] that they have become known as "alphabet pulps. "

English

Subject field(s)
  • Types of Paper
  • Graphic Arts and Printing
DEF

A printing paper having groundwood or mechanical refiner pulp as part of its fibre furnish.

OBS

The use of such mechanical pulp instead of all chemical wood pulps produces characteristics such as higher bulk, higher opacity for equivalent basis weight, greater softness and higher finish. These properties are valuable from the standpoint of low cost and high-speed printing. These papers are less permanent and somewhat less bright than papers made of all chemical wood pulps. Such printing papers are made in a variety of furnishes ranging from approximately 100% of mechanical wood pulp to as little as 20% and are sized, finished, coloured, loaded, coated and calendered in various ways to make them suitable for many types of printing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sortes de papier
  • Imprimerie et arts graphiques
DEF

Papier impression pouvant contenir de 20 à 75 % de pâtes mécaniques.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Papermaking Machines
DEF

A type of mechanical pulp refiner consisting of a conical plug whose surface is equipped with individual bar and wood spacers, and is fitted inside a similarly equipped shell between which the pulp slurry is moved as the motor-driven plug rotates. It applies a refining action on the fibers....

French

Domaine(s)
  • Machines à papier
DEF

  • Pulp Preparation (papermaking)
DEF

Wood pulp made by presteaming chips, followed by mechanical treatment in a refiner at atmospheric pressure.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Préparation de la pâte à papier
DEF

Record 6 1993-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pulp Preparation (papermaking)
CONT

... refiner mechanical pulp(RMP)... is produced by the mechanical reduction of wood chips(and sometimes sawdust) in a disc refiner. The process usually involves the use of two refining stages operating in series(i. e. two-stage refining), and produces a longer-fibered pulp than conventional groundwood.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Préparation de la pâte à papier
CONT

double disk refiner : A type of machine used to mechanically treat fibrous materials(chips and pulp), essentially consisting of two metallic surface-patterned disks with one stationary or both rotating in opposite directions on horizontal shafts. Chips or pulp are fed into the center of one of the disks and moves outward between the surfaces as they are subjected to mechanical treatment.
