A city of the Yukon Territory and its capital since 1953, located at kilometre 1476, just off the Alaska Highway. The city lies mainly on the western side of the Yukon River, nestled in a protected valley surrounded by Canyon Mountain(locally known as Grey Mountain) to the east, Haeckel Hill to the northwest and Golden Horn Mountain to the south. Located at the head of navigation on the Yukon River, Whitehorse grew significantly by becoming a temporary stopping point--past two major obstacles on the river, Miles Canyon and the Whitehorse Rapids--for prospectors heading for Dawson(then known as "Dawson City") during the Klondike Gold Rush Years(1897-1899). In 1900, with the completion of the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway from Skagway in Alaska, to Carcross and Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory, the community grew around the point where the railway and river met, on the western side of the Yukon River. After the gold rush, Whitehorse's population dropped, but with the help of navigation and aviation companies, the British Yukon Navigation Company building riverboats and operating them to Dawson until 1954, and the British Yukon Aviation Company transporting mail, freight and passengers, the economy was kept afloat. During World War II, Whitehorse played a significant role as a key link in the north-south transportation system, hosting the Americans and Canadians in charge of expanding the air link that was the Northwest Staging Route(a series of airfields across the Northwest), building the 2300-km Alaska Highway, or constructing the Canol Pipeline from Norman Wells, N. W. T., and an oil refinery at Whitehorse. In 1950, Whitehorse was incorporated as a city. In 1953, the territorial capital of the Yukon was moved from Dawson to Whitehorse, adding the government sector to an economy made of the mining(copper, silver and lead-zinc), tourist and oil industries. Though the mines shut down in Yukon and the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway ended its operations 2, record 29, English, - Whitehorse

Currently, fuel additives are typically added to the fuel at large fuel terminals to bulk storage tanks, tank trucks, rail cars or other storage receptacles. The fuel is added by a process known as "splash blending" which means the additives are added as the fuel is being loaded into the receptacle. The process relies on the splashing of the liquids to effect mixing. ... Splash blending can also be used to mix the additive with the fuel at on-site tanks. In this case the additive is added to, for example, a bulk fuel tank or bunker tank located at the site of end-use. The splashing of the liquids mixes the additives as the tank is being filled from a fuel distribution vehicle or pipeline. Fuel distribution vehicles can include trucks, rail cars, barges or the like. 3, record 36, English, - splash%20blending
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Ethanol cannot be moved effectively through today’s pipeline system, as it tends to get pulled into the water that usually exists in petroleum pipelines and tanks. Instead, it is blended at terminals near the end users. Splash blending, in which ethanol is added directly to a tanker truck along with the base gasoline, is commonly used. 4, record 36, English, - splash%20blending
Record number: 36, Textual support number: 1 OBS
"splash blending" generally refers to a blending process done by pouring products together, for example, manually pouring an additive into a shipping compartment. This may occur at the loading rack when a vehicle (barge or truck) is being loaded, or enroute. Uranium Recycle Project. Cameco is seeking approval for remilling two recyclable products from the Blind River refinery and Port Hope conversion facilities in Ontario, at its Key Lake operation in northern Saskatchewan. This approval would constitute a change to the mill feed component of the Key Lake operation. The purpose of remilling is to recover the uranium content of the uranium bearing products which are in a dry powdered form similar to the material that is fed into one stage of the milling process called the "leach circuit. "The recyclable products contain approximately 4% uranium and would be used to produce the licensed capacity of some 28 million pounds of U3O8.
