How do you draw a straight line through the center of each price bar? Technically, you can’t, at least not on any chart where the prices jump around at all. But scientists have a solution to jumpiness : to "fit" a line that minimizes the distance from itself to each price along the line. The best-fit line is named the "linear regression line, ""linear" referring to "line" and "regression" referring to the mathematical calculation.

In a linear regression between two variables, the average unit of change in the dependent variable associated with each unit of change in the independent variable.

OBS

The regression coefficient is obtained by dividing the standard deviation of the dependent variable by the standard deviation of the independent variable and multiplying the quotient by the coefficient of correlation. The regression coefficient defines the slope of the regression line(illustrating the relationship between the two variables).

For three-day intervals, an average radar cross-section(NRCS-40) is computed for each grid point by linear regression between the measured NRCS [Normalized Radar Cross-Section] and their respective incidence angles. NRCS-40 is the value of this regression line at an incidence angle of 40°. This procedure accounts for the incidence angle dependence of the NRCS, which is highly variable in spring when the backscattering mechanism changes from volume to surface scattering depending on snow cover, snow wetness, soil moisture and the penetration depth of the microwaves.
