CONT

From the end of the backswing until the instant or release, a discus throw can be broken down into five phases : 1. An initial double-support phase, 2. A single-support phase on the left foot, 3. A non-support phase, 4. A second single support phase, on the right foot, 5. The delivery phase...

DEF

Technique in the last part of the follow-through in shot put, hammer and discus throws, used to gain body balance and to avoid fouling by stepping on or outside the circle(i. e. a recovery mechanism following the release of the implement).

CONT

After the shot has left the hand, a quick movement reversing the position of the feet transfers the body weight on to the right foot. An extension of this foot tends to stop the forward motion of the body, and in turn prevents a foul.

OBS

The term "reverse" is most commonly used.

CONT

CONT

Baryshnikov technique : In 1972, Russian Alexsandr Baryshnikov developed a technique involving a spin similar to that used by discus throwers. The rotation provides energy that enables the athlete to propel the shot at greater speed when it is concentrated at the moment of the release. It is the most popular technique today.

CONT

Smaller throwers may benefit from the Spin technique, which compensates for the lack of long levers with superior speed generated by the spinning motion. Throwers who are adept at pivoting or spinning may be candidates for the Spin technique.

CONT
