English

Subject field(s)

CONT

Healthcare providers are recommended to follow advanced life support(ALS) algorithm when treating cardiac arrest patients... This algorithm includes the use [of] the devices and drugs to rescue such patients. The algorithm shows the management during cardiac arrest and after return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC)...

Record 2 2017-11-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical and Hospital Organization
CONT

The rule predicted that prehospital cardiac arrest patients could be considered for termination of resuscitation by advanced life support paramedics if there was no return of spontaneous circulation at any point during resuscitation, no shock was given, the arrest was not witnessed by emergency medical services personnel or bystanders and no bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation was delivered.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Organisation médico-hospitalière
CONT

Record 4 2015-02-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Cardiovascular System
CONT

Lazarus syndrome or autoresuscitation after failed cardiopulmonary resuscitation is the spontaneous return of circulation after failed attempts at resuscitation.... a chief factor... is the buildup of pressure in the chest as a result of cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR). The relaxation of pressure after resuscitation efforts have ended is thought to allow the heart to expand, triggering the heart's electrical impulses and restarting the heartbeat.

Record 9 1990-03-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Heating
DEF

Warm-air heating system that depends on the difference in density between warm and cold air for the circulation of air throughout the system.

OBS

Early warm-air systems delivered air to and from rooms by gravity circulation in large ducts connected to the furnace in the basement. Since the only force producing circulation was that due to the small difference in density between the hot supply air and the cold return air, a satisfactory volume of air could be moved only by providing very large air ducts and registers and heating the air to a high temperature. The result was a very bulky system that produced hot air at the ceiling and cold air on the floor.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chauffage
CONT

CONT

The function of the return-air intake or grille is to provide a means for the room air to be returned to the furnace to be reheated and recirculated. ...The return air from small bedrooms escapes from the room through the space below the closed door.

CONT

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Cooling and Ventilating Systems
  • Thermodynamics
CONT

The circulation of heated air between adjacent rooms and different levels can be improved by using vents. Properly located floor vents can assist the natural convection cycle of rising warm air and falling cool air by providing a path. For example, the central stairway in a two-storey home allows warm air to reach the second floor, but circulation is limited because there is little return of displaced air back to the ground floor. Add one or two floor vents near outside walls and the cooler air upstairs will flow down through the vents and back towards the heater.
