The interplanetary magnetic field(IMF) is a part of the Sun's magnetic field that is carried into interplanetary space by the solar wind. The interplanetary mangetic field lines are said to be "frozen in" to the solar wind plasma. Because of the Sun's rotation, the IMF, like the solar wind, travels outward in a spiral pattern that is often compared to the pattern of water sprayed from a rotating lawn sprinkler. The IMF originates in regions on the Sun where the magnetic field is "open" that is, where field lines emerging from one region do not return to a conjugate region but extend virtually indefinitely into space. The direction(polarity, sense) of the field in the Sun's northern hemisphere is opposite to that of the field in the southern hemisphere.(The polarities reverse with each solar cycle).

Principle of operation of some automatic weapons, whereby the recoil energy imparted to the barrel is used to actuate the mechanism and perform the necessary cycle of operation. Two systems of recoil operation have been in use, as follows : a. Short recoil operation. The breechblock remains locked to the barrel only while the chamber pressure is high. This involves a barrel travel of only about 1/2 inch. The device locking the breechblock to the barrel is then released and the two components separate. The barrel may remain stationary and await the return of the breechblock, but in most modern designs the barrel has its own spring and goes forward into battery, e. g.. 50 calibre heavy machine-gun. b. Long recoil operation. The barrel and locked breech recoil a greater distance than the length of the cartridge. The breechblock is then held to the rear while the barrel is driven forward by its own spring. When the barrel is fully forward, it trips the catch releasing the breechblock, which then feeds the next cartridge into the chamber. Mainly encountered in semi-automatic shotguns. A son arrivée à la position avant, le canon actionne un déclencheur, libérant la culasse qui, à son tour alimente la cartouche suivante dans la chambre. The circulation of heated air between adjacent rooms and different levels can be improved by using vents. Properly located floor vents can assist the natural convection cycle of rising warm air and falling cool air by providing a path. For example, the central stairway in a two-storey home allows warm air to reach the second floor, but circulation is limited because there is little return of displaced air back to the ground floor. Add one or two floor vents near outside walls and the cooler air upstairs will flow down through the vents and back towards the heater.
