The lockbolt combines the features of a high-strength bolt and rivet, but it has advantages over both. The lockbolt is generally used in wing-splice fittings, landing-gear fittings, fuel-cell fittings, longerons, beams, skin-splice plates, and other major structural attachments. It is more easily and quickly installed than the conventional rivet or bolt and eliminates the use of lockwasher, cotter pins, and special nuts. Like the rivet, the lockbolt requires a pneumatic hammer or "pull gun" for installation; when installed, it is rigidly and permanently locked in place. Three types of lockbolts are commonly used, the pull type, the stump type, and the blind type. 2, record 22, English, - lockbolt

A device known as a pop, or blind riveter will install and set rivets without the use of a tool to support the work.... Each rivet has a pin, or mandrel, which is automatically broken off, removed, and discarded after the rivet has been set. The stem of the rivet is inserted in the tool and placed through the hole. As the tool is squeezed, the mandrel draws the concealed end of the rivet back, expands it to completely fill the hole, then breaks off as soon as the head is formed. 3, record 49, English, - pop%20rivet%20tool

Quand on presse les poignées, la tige tire, vers l'arrière, la partie invisible du rivet, la compresse pour remplir le trou complètement, puis se brise dès que la tête s'est bien formée. 1, record 49, French, - riveteuse%20pop

Rivet layout. When a riveted repair to an aluminum alloy structure is made, there are certain minimums that must be adhered to for rivet spacing.... Rivets in a row, whose spacing is called pitch, should be no closer than three diameters, and usually no farther apart than 13 diameters; six diameters is good spacing to work with. The distance between the rows is called gage, and is usually about three quarters of the pitch with the rows of rivets staggered. 2, record 84, English, - rivet%20row
