Regulated animal : Under the Health of Animals Regulations, section 10, is a hatching egg, turtle, tortoise, bird, honeybee, or mammal. Species excluded from the definition of regulated animals are members of the orders Cetacea, Pinnipedia and Sirenia; or members of the order Rodentia, with the exception of the following : Prairie dogs(Cynomys sp.) ;African giant pouched rats(Cricetomys gambianus) ;and squirrels of the family Sciuridae, from any country; and any members of the order Rodentia from Africa. Jumping mice have the usual rodent modifications for jumping, including large hind feet and long hind legs; weak, short front legs and feet; and a long, scantily haired tail used for balance in jumping.... Several species, classified in the genus Zapus, are found... in moist habitats of much of North America south to the southern United States.... Another species, Napaeozapus insignis, inhabits the dense woodlands of eastern North America... Caviomorpha was named by Wood and Patterson(1955). It is extant. It was reranked as the suborder Caviomorpha by MacFadden et al.(1993) ;it was revalidated by Nowak(1999) ;it was reranked as the unranked clade Caviomorpha by Huchon and Douzery(2001).
