Rome, 27 August 2002--The World Food Summit : five years later, whcih ended 13 June, called for an international alliance to accelerate action to reduce world hunger. It also unanimously adopted a declaration calling on the international community to fulfil and earlier pledge to cut the number of hungary people to about 400 million by 2015. That pledge was made at the original World Food Summit in 1996-the largest-ever global gathering of leaders to address hunger and food security-and progress towards it remained disappointingly slow.

Il a aussi adopté à l'unanimité une déclaration demandant à la communauté internationale de remplir son engagement précédant, de ramener le nombre des personnes souffrant de la faim à quelque 400 millions d'ici 2015. Cet engagement avait été pris lors du premier Sommet mondial de l'alimentation en 1996 - qui avait constitué le plus grand rassemblement au monde de dirigeants s'attaquant aux problèmes de la faim et de la sécurité alimentaire - mais la lenteur des progrès a été décevante.
