Roof crickets are the roof design element to slow down and redirect water coming down the roof above a large roof protrusion (chimney, skylight or wall). If this is not done, then water can splash over the back saddle flashing and cause a leak. The minimum requirement is that a cricket or diverter be in place on all protrusions wider than 30 inches.

Flashing are the L-shaped metal pieces that go from the roof to the roof protrusion(chimney, dormer, skylite, etc) or for pipes, its the metal rectangle with the rubber piece in the middle that goes over the protruding pipe.

Subdued, relaxed and refined, Lunenburg is a walking town of narrow, hilly streets that lead to the sea. Visitors enjoy the dozens of wonderful old wooden homes, gaily dressed in bright reds, whites, blues and yellows. A distinctive feature of many homes is the "Lunenburg Bump", a Scottish dormer that extends out from the roof to form an overhead protecting the front door.

The homes, built on small compact lots with their characteristic "Lunenburg Bump" over the entrance, are quite unique in their design. Today the architecture of Old Town Lunenburg has given it status as a UNESCO world heritage site.
