The top ply should be installed in a flood coat of asphalt/bitumen as well. It is important that the asphalt/bitumen has to be at the correct temperature at the point of application. The asphalt/bitumen flood coat must impregnate the entire polyester fleece material, only the top fleece surface needs to be flood coated. Particular attention is paid to the skylight corner curb detail ... The installation is finally complete once the parapet flashing are installed. The protected roof membrane is then given a glaze coat of asphalt and insulation, slip sheet and ballast are installed and placed on the roof.

After the roof is thoroughly cleaned, the base layer of Roof Guard elastomeric coating is spray applied to the roof surface at an approximate rate of 6 gallons per 100 sq ft. Into the wet elastomeric coating a ply of tietex polyester fabric is embedded. The whole roof and all flashings are laid up in the same fashion forming a monolithic, flexible and extremely strong membrane.

Apply only as much insulation as can be covered by a complete roof membrane in the same day. Do not leave insulation exposed to the weather. If a vapor retarder is to be used with this construction, it should be placed on top of a minimal base layer of mechanically attached insulation. The bulk of the thermal roof insulation should be placed on top of the vapor retarder.

ice dam: This term was submitted to our language information service and appeared in the following sentence: "An ice dam is being installed at the back of the building to stop any ice and snow from falling on the deck." However, since we could not validate this use of the term in any other source, we do not recommend its usage. An "ice dam" is normally (and correctly) used to designate a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of an inadequately insulated and ventilated roof and prevents melting snow (water) from draining off the roof, causing ice damming (in French "digue de glace").

When snow and ice melt, trapped water can infiltrate to damage the roof deck and interior. Ice Guard [trademark] is installed under shingled roofing to prevent water damage from ice dams.... Applied under the shingles, Ice Guard forms a long-lasting waterproof barrier, unlike normal shingle underlayment. Ice Guard is warranted to protect against water leakage, where it has been applied, for the warranted life of the new shingled roof.

An ice dam is a build up of ice and water that works its way under shingles/shakes. When snow/ice from the peak melts (caused by warm spots in the attic or the sun), water slowly runs down the roof. ... Most roofs have a single layer of underlayment (i.e. builder’s felt) that protects against moisture penetration and in many northern states an extra waterproofing membrane is required by building codes.
