Also known as upside-down roof assembly, an inverted built-up roofing system consists of several layers installed in a sequence different from the usual one in which insulation is placed below the roof deck. The more evident and more serious blisters are structural blisters. They occur in many forms of deformation and are not confined to the exposed surface. They are caused mainly by the expansion of trapped air and water-vapour or moisture or other gases. Air and moisture trapped within the construction tend to expand during a rise in air temperature or from the heat of the sun, and this expansion causes the plies of the roofing to separate and bulge the roof surface in a balloon effect. The blisters are spongy to the touch, and may occur between any of the layers of roofing felt, or between membrane and deck, or membrane and insulation. 3, record 8, English, - air%20pocket

2, record 8, French, - poche%20d%27air

Super insulated roofs have a thermal resistance rating of R-45 or greater and a vapor retarder on the warm side of the insulation. Generally these systems are not vented or are vented only enough to avoid creating a vapor trap in the attic or roof joist space. A super insulated roof greatly reduces, but does not stop heat escaping the building. In some places, super insulation without ventilation is enough to eliminate chronic icing at eaves. 2, record 16, English, - insulated%20roof

A passive solar collection system in which plastic bags of water on the roof are appropriately exposed or insulated during the day and night depending on the thermal requirements of the building for summer and winter operation. Heat transfer (into or out of the bags) to the structure is directly through the ceiling. 4, record 37, English, - roof%20pond
