A built-up roofing consists of plies or layers of roofing felt bonded together on site with hot bitumen. A protective surface coating of gravel or slag is sometimes embedded in a heavy top coating of hot bitumen. It is laid down to conform to the roof deck, and to protect all angles formed by the roof deck with projecting surfaces, and forms a single-unit flexible waterproofed membrane fastened to the deck by cementing and nailing. The simple principle on flat roofs is to turn the membrane up to form a skirting or base flashing on the vertical surfaces, making a large watertight tray. The only outlets from this tray are the roof drains to dispose of water. 3, record 7, English, - build%2Dup%20roofing

IPI elastic membrane... is a one-component, white or grey, high solids, brushable liquid, formulated as a high performance, electrometric, weather barrier coating that is designed for the permanent repair of leaks on roofs and waterproofing roof decks. IPI elastic membrane is a micro-porous film that prevents water from penetrating the film but allows trapped moisture to escape. This breathable, flexible polymeric membrane is designed for use with reinforcing fabric and provides the ultimate protection for roofs. Being liquid applied, it produces a seamless water barrier that fully adheres to the roof deck. 3, record 13, English, - polymeric%20liner

Though limited, groundwater is available in permafrost regions. Suprapermafrost water is water which stands on the surface of the ground in summer.... Intrapermafrost water is difficult to locate because it is locked with very few outlets into the permafrost. It is located in the same way that oil and gas are found, with seismic-prospecting instruments. Difficult to locate and generally sporadic, intrapermafrost water is normally too small in volume to satisfy the needs of large settlements. Subpermafrost water is the most dependable source of ground water in permafrost regions, since it never freezes and is kept fresh by the water-tight permafrost roof. It commonly emerges at ground level as springs. 1, record 17, English, - intrapermafrost%20water

The extraneous water which enters a sanitary sewer system utilizes the design capacity and increases the cost of wastewater collection and treatment facilities. The flows are generally attributed to infiltration and inflow. Infiltration is the groundwater which leaks into the sewer system generally through deteriorated and/or defective pipes, joints, connections, and manholes.... Inflow is the stormwater which directly enters the sewer system after rainfall from such sources as flooded manhole covers, yard and roof drain connections and cross-connections with a storm sewer. Skylights, chimneys, and roof hatches. Rectangular penetrations can be handled with sheet metal flashings in some cases, and with "preformed" curb flashings in others... The base flashing is rigidly connected to the roof panel with washered screws... The upslope side of a rectangular penetration is a bit more difficult. The panel itself must end a sufficient distance from the penetration to allow room for a cricket, of diverter, to direct the flow of water around the penetration. This cricket flashing must be inserted beneath the upslope panel and sealed to it with butyl tape. 3, record 22, English, - cricket%20flashing

Blister [is] a term sometimes used to describe weather blisters. These are small surface blisters, which can be seen in large numbers over the entire roof area, more predominant during warm weather where roofs are exposed directly to the sun, and which are a result of natural weathering of the surface bitumen. Volatiles and water vapour in the bitumen tend to be driven off by heat, and when the gases are trapped they form small blisters. This type of blistering usually does not cause any failure during the normal life of the roof. 5, record 26, English, - blueberry

An ice dam is a build up of ice and water that works its way under shingles/shakes. When snow/ice from the peak melts(caused by warm spots in the attic or the sun), water slowly runs down the roof.... Most roofs have a single layer of underlayment(i. e. builder's felt) that protects against moisture penetration and in many northern states an extra waterproofing membrane is required by building codes. 5, record 30, English, - ice%20guard

Other sources define "building shell" as "The skeleton of a building to which the finished exterior and interior are applied. It includes the building foundation", which refers to a completely different concept. We conclude that for a majority of authors the two terms may be used as synonyms and that for some others "building shell" refers to the skeleton (structure) rather than the envelope of the building. 12, record 37, English, - building%20envelope

The raise climber consists of a cage for the crew, with a working platform on top for roof scaling and drilling and charging of holes. The machine, equipped with rack-and-pinion drive, travels along a guide rail and monorail with pinion rack, which are bolted to the hangingwall by expansion bolts. 3, record 43, French, - Alimak
