The term indoor relative humidity is sometimes used to specify the relative humidity which outside air will have when heated to a given room temperature, such as 72 °F, without addition of moisture. It always has a low value in cold weather and is then a better measure of the drying effect on skin than is outdoor relative humidity. 2, record 1, English, - outdoor%20relative%20humidity

Radiators, convectors, and baseboard and finned tube units are types of heat-distributing devices commonly used in steam and low temperature water heating systems.... In general, these types of heat-distributing units should be placed at the points of greatest heat loss of the space.... For example, such units are commonly located under windows, along exposed walls, and at door openings.... The term "baseboard"... refers to heat-distributing units designed for installation along the bottom of walls, in place of the conventional baseboard. They may be made of cast-iron, with a substantial portion of the front face directly exposed to the room, or with a finned tube element in a sheet metal enclosure. They operate with gravity-circulated room air.... Baseboard heat-distributing units are divided into two types : radiant-convector and finned tube. 5, record 3, English, - baseboard%20heater

For heating purposes, a floor register is preferred. This is because hot air rises, and, as it cools, it falls. This creates good air circulation in a room, and helps to maintain a more even temperature as hot and cold air [are] mixed more thoroughly. 2, record 4, English, - floor%20register

Regnault devised a hygrometer of the dew-point type consisting of two silver vessels A and G(see diagram), mounted side by side. Air may be blown from D through a tube C dipping into ether contained in A. This causes the ether to evaporate through E thus cooling the tube A until eventually, at the dew point, moisture condenses on the outside of A giving it a dull appearance compared with the surface of G. This temperature, and that at which the dullness disappears on allowing the apparatus to stand, are noted on the thermometer F, the mean giving the dew point, which in conjunction with the room temperature, enables the relative humidity of the air to be calculated. 1, record 13, English, - Regnault%27s%20hygrometer

Induction system. This system has been extensively developed for multistorey office blocks and hotels. Conditioned air from a central plant is conveyed at high velocity through small ducts to each unit. This "primary" air is discharged through a series of small jets, so that a flow of "secondary" room air is induced that passes over the coil surface within the unit. Chilled or warm water is supplied to the coil on a change-over system according to outside temperature. 1, record 27, English, - induction%20system

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house. 1, record 28, English, - forced%20air%20wood%20furnace

Unitary systems are installed in each room and can provide individual room temperature control. They include baseboard, wall, cabinet, floor insert or wall insert convection heaters... Drop-in or floor insert units are designed for the front of stairways, floor level windows or sliding glass doors. Both cabinet and floor-mounted units have a built-in thermal limit control to prevent overheating if air flow is restricted. 1, record 29, English, - drop%2Din%20unit
