The set point theory [is] arguably the most influential and debated theory of body weight control. It suggests that like temperature in a room controlled by a thermostat, body weight(or body fat) is controlled by an equivalent device(ponderostat, adipostat) residing in the hypothalamus. Borrowing from the engineering vocabulary, this device receives feedback input from the controlled parameter(room temperature, body weight or body fat), and generates an error signal in a comparator if this feedback signal is deviating from a preset reference value(set point). The error signal is used to turn up or down any mechanisms that determine the level of the controlled parameter(heat production or dissipation in the case of room temperature, metabolizable energy-in or energy lost in the case of body weight/adiposity). 4, record 2, English, - ponderostat

Drawing : In this process, the material being drawn is at room temperature(i. e. cold-drawn). The pointed/reduced end of the bar or coil, which is smaller than the die opening, is passed through the die where it enters a gripping device of the drawing machine. The drawing machine pulls or draws the remaining unreduced section of the bar or coil through the die. Radiators, convectors, and baseboard and finned tube units are types of heat-distributing devices commonly used in steam and low temperature water heating systems.... In general, these types of heat-distributing units should be placed at the points of greatest heat loss of the space.... For example, such units are commonly located under windows, along exposed walls, and at door openings.... The term "baseboard"... refers to heat-distributing units designed for installation along the bottom of walls, in place of the conventional baseboard. They may be made of cast-iron, with a substantial portion of the front face directly exposed to the room, or with a finned tube element in a sheet metal enclosure. They operate with gravity-circulated room air.... Baseboard heat-distributing units are divided into two types : radiant-convector and finned tube. 5, record 19, English, - baseboard%20heater

Cupping is one of the coffee tasting techniques used by cuppers to evaluate coffee aroma and the flavor profile of a coffee.... In a coffee cupping session, the table is usually set up with 6 to 10 cups per coffee. These are fashioned in a triangular manner. At the top of this triangle you should place a sample of the roasted coffee and a sample of the green coffee. In the center of the table place a cup of room temperature water and an empty cup containing the cupping spoons. Cover both the green sample and roasted sample until the cupping session is over and the coffee aroma, fragrance, and flavor profile have been documented. After this time, the coffee samples could be uncovered and additional comments can be written based on appearance. This method will help reduce the common "eye cupping" technique. 2, record 30, English, - coffee%20cupping

4, record 31, French, - %C3%A9lastom%C3%A8re

A liquid magnet.... The melt of an alloy(Co80-Pd20) which is ferromagnetic in the solid state at room temperature was undercooled below its melting point. The freely suspended droplet(diameter approx. 7 mm)-processed in the coil of an electromagnetic levitation facility-was attracted by a permanent magnet when the temperature approached the Curie temperature(lower picture). The attractive force depends on the temperature in a way characteristic for ferromagnetic materials. This appears to be the first demonstration for the possible existence of long-range magnetic order even in a liquid. 1, record 38, English, - liquid%20magnet

In the bottleshop of a brewery, returned empty bottles go through washers in which they receive a thorough cleaning. After washing, the bottles are inspected electronically and visually, and pass on to the rotary filler. Some of these machines can fill up to 1, 200 bottles per minute. A "crowning" machine integrated with the filler, places caps on the bottles. The filled bottles may then pass through a "tunnel" pasteurizer-often 75 feet from end to end and able to hold 15, 000 bottles-where the temperature of the beer is raised about 60 degrees Celsius for a sufficient length of time to provide biological stability, then cooled to room temperature. 2, record 46, English, - tunnel%20pasteuriser

The half cooling time measures the time that is taken to remove 50% of the heat from the apple. For example, if fruit temperatures are at 72°F in storage room at 32°F, the temperature difference between the fruit and final desired temperature is 40°F. A half cooling time of 8 hours means that it will take that time to reduce fruit temperatures by half this amount, i. e., 20°F, to reach a temperature of 52°F, and a further 8 hours to reduce fruit temperatures by 10°F to 42°F. In practice, we consider that it takes three half cooling times to "cool" a product. 2, record 50, English, - half%20cooling%20time

It has been well established in pure and applied chemistry of simple molecules that reaction energies at room temperature can be understood in terms of two contributions, one related to energy differences at 0 K [Kelvin](the innate inherent chemical bond energy) and the other associated with integrals of heat capacity data over a range of temperatures(the thermal agitation energy). Regnault devised a hygrometer of the dew-point type consisting of two silver vessels A and G(see diagram), mounted side by side. Air may be blown from D through a tube C dipping into ether contained in A. This causes the ether to evaporate through E thus cooling the tube A until eventually, at the dew point, moisture condenses on the outside of A giving it a dull appearance compared with the surface of G. This temperature, and that at which the dullness disappears on allowing the apparatus to stand, are noted on the thermometer F, the mean giving the dew point, which in conjunction with the room temperature, enables the relative humidity of the air to be calculated. 1, record 71, English, - Regnault%27s%20hygrometer

A molecule at room temperature normally resides in the ground state. The ground state is usually a singlet state... with all electrons paired. Electrons that occupy the same molecular orbital must be "paired", that is, have opposite spins. In a singlet state, the electrons are paired. If electrons have the same spin, they are "unpaired" and the molecule is in a triplet state. Singlet and triplet states refer to the multiplicity of the molecule.... The spacing of the vibrational levels and rotational levels in these higher electronic states gives rise to the absorption spectrum of the molecule. 4, record 75, English, - self%2Dabsorption

... CR ... Newer riot control irritant developed in England in 1962 by the British chemists Higginbottom and Suchitzsky. About 5 times more effective than CS [and] much less toxic than CS. CR is not used in its pure form (a yellow powder) but dissolved in a solution of 80 parts of propylene glycol and 20 parts of water to form a 0.1-percent CR solution. It is used in solution as a riot control agent. Eye pain, discomfort and excessive tearing occur with sometimes painful sensitivity to strong light or temporary blindness. Symptoms can persist for 15 to 30 minutes. Dubbed "fire gas" by the media because of the burning sensation it caused to the skin of rioters when used in Northern Ireland from 1973-1974. Authorized U.S. Army use in 1974. 3, record 79, English, - CR%20gas

The Biorack is being used during this nine-day mission to study the effects of radiation and the absence of gravity(i. e. microgravity) on plant, fungus, tissue and cell growth. This research will help to determine the effects of long-duration spaceflight on organisms and prepare for the International Space Station... The Biorack integrates several scientific facilities in a single rack-highly desirable given the limited room available onboard a spaceflight. It offers incubators that permit experiments to be performed in different temperature controlled environments; simulated 1 g that allows investigators to distinguish between effects induced by gravity and microgravity; and a "glovebox" or protected workspace for specimen handling. 2, record 94, English, - Biorack
