Agricultural production is dependent, in part, on the cycling of nitrogen within the rural environment.... Before nitrogen can be used by plants, it must be converted into forms that are available to plants; this conversion is called mineralization. The plants take up these mineral forms through their root systems and form plant proteins and other organic forms of nitrogen. Livestock eat crops and produce manure, which is returned to the soil, adding organic and mineral forms of nitrogen to the soil, which can be used again by the next crop. 2, record 1, English, - return%20to%20soil

2, record 1, French, - retourner%20au%20sol

The Austoft 7000 harvester is a chopper harvester with a cleaning system. This harvester is used to cut green cane(with leaves). It cuts one row of cane at a time. The cane is fed between the crop dividers and cut at the root zone by base cutter blades. The cane is then fed through the roller train and is cut by the chopper drums into small cane pieces of 10 to 12".... In ideal conditions, the harvester can cut nearly 400 tonnes of sugarcane per day. 2, record 5, English, - chopper%20harvester

Water is applied to crops by surface, subsurface, sprinkler, and drip irrigation... Subirrigation. This type of irrigation is accomplished by raising the water table to the root zone of the crop or by carrying moisture to the root zone by perforated underground pipe. 5, record 15, English, - subsurface%20irrigation
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Subirrigation(seepage) systems are based on establishment and maintenance of the high water table just beneath the crop root zone. Due to the capillary action the water migrates upward providing necessary moisture for the crop. For this system to function, the top layer of soil must have high hydraulic conductivity typical for sand or muck. The existence of natural high water table or restrictive layer(clay, rock, etc.) below the root zone is necessary to allow for the buildup and regulation of the irrigation water table throughout the season. Raising the water table in addition to providing for the evapotranspirational demand of the crop, requires large quantities of water which must also be available for seepage irrigation. 6, record 15, English, - subsurface%20irrigation
