ROOT TEMPERATURE [5 records]

Record 1 2025-05-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Seeding and Planting Equipment
  • Plant and Crop Production
CONT

Heat mats provide gentle bottom heat to speed germination and encourage stronger root growth. Heat mats warm the root zone 10-20 degrees above room temperature, making them ideal for starting heat loving crops such as tomatoes, peppers end eggplants from seed.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matériel de plantation et de semis
  • Cultures (Agriculture)
CONT

Les tapis chauffants dégagent une chaleur constante qui assure une croissance optimale des nouvelles pousses.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Equipo de plantación y de siembra
  • Producción vegetal

Record 2 2010-12-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Welding and Soldering (Metals)
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
DEF

A defect triggered in the root pass of a weld in the immediate neighbourhood of the contact zone, and which spreads radially between the grains when under stress in service.

OBS

[Delayed re-heat cracking] only occurs with certain materials such as 321 type stainless steel, as it is caused by hardening of the steel due to fine precipitations of titanium carbide inside the crystalline structure. The hardening causes the plastic deformation capacity to be transferred to the periphery of the grains. For this to happen, the following conditions have to be met : a high operating temperature([higher than] 475°C for 321 steel), a geometrical discontinuity at the weld root, strain hardening at the weld root showing significant shrinkage, heavy local load, which may be due to welding stresses, a defect in the weld root(e. g. a small shrinkage crack).

Key term(s)

Record 3 2004-05-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Silviculture
DEF

... longitudinal cracks that occur in the bark and wood often extending several feet up and down and penetrating several inches into the trunks of affected trees.

CONT

The colder the temperature the wider the cracks may open. Sudden drops in temperature do not appear to increase the appearance or width of cracks when compared with slow temperature changes. Soil moisture levels do not appear to affect ’frost cracking’ of previously ’frost crack’ injured trees, while wrapping or painting(using a white latex paint) appear to reduce this problem. In addition, wrapping and painting reduce sunscald, a trunk injury which may lead to frost cracking in future years. ’Frost cracks’ start from old wounds resulting from trunk injury, branch stubs, basal sprouts or root death.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sylviculture
DEF

Record 4 2002-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
CONT

Water transfers from the root zone to the atmosphere depend both on biological and physical controls. Plants limit their water losses in unfavorable environmental conditions determined by soil moisture in the root zone, atmospheric water vapour deficit, solar radiation, air temperature and carbon-dioxide concentration.

Record 5 1994-05-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Perfume and Cosmetics Industry
CONT

Certain delicate oils may be obtained by solvent extraction, a process also employed to extract waxes and perfume oil, yielding - by removal of the solvent - a solid substance called a concrete.

CONT

Concretes-are processed products resulting from extracting the natural raw material(jasmine flowers, orris root, labdanum leaves, etc.) with purified petroleum ether or other non-polar solvents. The solvents are then removed by vacuum distillation. The remaining materials are mostly solids or semi-solids at room temperature, as they contain in addition to the essential oil also di-and tri-terpenes, waxes, glycerides, and other similar type materials.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Parfumerie
CONT
