Routine dental care is important due to the unique structure and function of horses’ teeth. Horses have a combination of brachydont and hypsodont teeth. The simple(brachydont) teeth are the first premolars(wolf tooth) and canines that have a distinct crown and root, but have no function for the domestic horse. The incisors and molars(cheek teeth) are hypsodont, like the molars of ruminants(cows, goats and sheep etc). This type of tooth has a large body that continues to erupt into the horse's mouth as they are worn down by fibrous feed material. Most of the tooth is below the gum line in younger horses and continues to develop as it enters the mouth. 3, record 14, English, - hypsodont

1, record 22, Spanish, - vaina%20epitelial%20de%20Hertwig

Periosteal elevators [...] are used to strip portions of the membrane(periosteum) covering the exterior surface of a bone. Periosteal elevators are used for trauma, spinal and other bone and soft tissue procedures. They are well balanced equipment with enough hardness to maintain the sharp edges. In the oral surgery, they are used to separate the tooth or the bone from the fibrous surroundings. Periosteal elevator is also used to access the root and may also be used as a retractor. 3, record 28, English, - periosteal%20elevator

Classical authors describe elevators for tooth extraction and for raising depressed skull fractures ... In practice many English-language instrument catalogues interchange the terms "raspatory", "rugine" and "periosteal elevator" haphazardly, though "rugine" tends to be reserved for instruments of French design. ... Indeed, the French for "raspatory" is "rugine"; and to clarify English usage, either one term or the other should be discarded. Though most rugines and elevators function by means of a pushing-away motion, a pulling action is also possible, especially when a rasping edge is sharply concave ... . 5, record 28, English, - periosteal%20elevator
