Squirrels mainly travel between the tree crowns. Wherever trees are too far apart, as is the case around roads, they venture onto the ground. As six roads cross through the Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark, squirrels would end up as road kill victims. To put an end to this situation, six squirrel bridges were created in 2012. In places where several squirrels had been run over, rope bridges were created to give squirrels safe passage between the tree crowns on either side of the lane. 2, record 8, English, - squirrel%20bridge

The [fisheries service] considers groundlines to be a significant threat to whales because they are normally constructed of floating rope. Therefore, [the fishery service] requires all fixed-gear fisheries... to use sinking or neutrally buoyant ropes for their groundlines... scuba divers [measured] the elevations of floating and sinking groundlines(of unreported length) on trawls, i. e. a string of traps connected in a series, of lobster traps set by a fisher. They reported that the sinking groundlines were in contact with or within 10 cm of the seabed, but that floating groundlines ranged from 0. 6 to 7. 5 m above the seabed. 2, record 18, English, - sinking%20groundline

Jet dyeing is a process that can be used for batch dyeing operations such as dyeing, bleaching, washing and rinsing. In this process, dyeing is accomplished in a closed tubular system, basically composed of an impeller pump and a shallow dye bath. The fabric to be dyed is loosely collapsed in a form of a rope, and tied into a loop. The impeller pump supplies a jet of dye solution, propelled by water and/or air, to force the fabric to move through the tube into the shallow bath. Turbulence created by the jet aids in dye penetration and prevents the fabric from touching the walls of the tube, thus minimizing mechanical impact on the fabric. 1, record 41, English, - jet%20dyeing

On retrouve aussi les graphies «ski-kjöring» et «ski-jöring». Le remplacement de «ski-kjöring» par «ski attelé» a été une bonne chose selon Vie et langage, mars 1953. When the "haul in" signal is given on the docking telegraph …, the operator pulls on the slack end of the rope that is wound loosely round the drum of the winch. This tightens the rope slightly on the drum and it grips the surface. The amount of tension on the free end of the rope is multiplied several hundred times and the resulting force is enough to move the entire ship, pulling it into the correct position. The [captain] signals with the docking telegraph or a hand held radio to tell the winch operator what to do and, by heaving in and paying out the ropes at each end of the ship, she can be positioned in exactly the right place regardless of the wind and waves. 1, record 81, English, - docking%20telegraph
