The Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE) has established four series of grade numbers, based on viscosity. Two of these series, one defined at low temperature and running from SAE 0 W(minimum viscosity) to SAE 25 W(maximum viscosity) and the other defined at high temperature and running from SAE 20 to SAE 50, are applied to engine oils. The other two series are applied to gear oils and do not form continuous series with the engine oil series. They run from SAE 70 W to SAE 85 W at low temperature and from SAE 90 to SAE 250 at 100 °C in an analogous manner. 1, record 1, English, - multigrade%20engine%20oil

1, record 1, French, - huile%20moteur%20multigrade

The idea of giving a weight to the particles, in proportion to their likely contribution to the result being sought. This should be associated with the Russian roulette consisting of “killing” particles whose weight is too low, with a probability that is proportional to the weight, and the “duplication” or “splitting” of particles that are too heavy. It can also be sometimes of interest to replace absorptions (capture and fission) by weight charges, without stopping the particles … 3, record 3, English, - splitting%20technique

… the optimization and quantification of particle splitting [is] a variance reduction technique that decreases the variance of a run, [sigma], or its relative error, R, while increasing its computational time, [tau]. This splitting technique is described in several papers, books, and reports. Geometry splitting associated with Russian roulette is one of the most widely used variance reduction techniques in Monte Carlo codes. When used effectively(i. e. splitting a volume in the right number of layers), this method causes a net increase in the figure of merit, FOM … [In a given example of splitting technique], an incident neutron n0 of weight W is split at the boundary crossing into two identical neutrons na and nb(same energy, direction) having half the weight of n0. The number of split particles and their weight are given by the ratio of weight associated with each volume of the problem. 1, record 3, English, - splitting%20technique

Splitting. 1, record 3, French, - technique%20du%20splitting

Timken lubricant test. The Timken test determines the load at which a film of lubricant will fail and cause scoring. The test consists of a revolving test cup(race) that rubs on a stationary block. Speeds are infinitely variable, but usually run at a race speed of 800 rpm. Load is applied through a lever arrangement, at the end of which the necessary weights are gradually added automatically at a rate of 2. 3 lb/sec. Refined Timken test machines, capable of infinitely variable loading from 0 to 1000 lb, measure friction, wear, and frictional temperature. Failure of lubricant is indicated by scoring of the test block. Tests of oils, greases, compounds, and solid lubricants can be made. [The results of such tests are reported variously in terms that relate to friction, seizure, stick-slip, wear, temperature, and load capacities under constant or different conditions]. 1, record 8, English, - load%20capacity
