Third, be very cautious about over packing the soil in the seed trench particularly on heavier soils. Garry says in very wet soils you need just enough pressure to form a trench over the seed. The importance of this trench is to reduce the depth of soil over the seed. If you over pack, especially in clay soils, you will get a smearing action over top the seed row that will bake, causing the seed row to dry out. This can exclude oxygen from the seed row which is essential for germination of all crops and nitrogen fixation by pulse crops. Meiers use a quick change mounted packer system. They adjust packing pressure by changing spring pressures. 1, record 6, English, - smearing

The Red River style of log building construction was one of the original methods used in Canada. The logs were left rounded with notched ends. This type of construction consisted of a basic frame of grooved, vertical, squared posts, mortised and tenoned into sills at their bases or set directly into the ground (in rare, early cases), and at their tips, mortised and tenoned into squared plates. Horizontal, squared timbers were fixed between these posts, with the tenons of the horizontal timbers fitting into the vertical groove of the posts. Roof structures of varying types were built on the wall plates. Red River Frame construction allowed both flexibility and portability. Large buildings could be erected using short logs, and buildings could be easily dismantled, moved and put up elsewhere. For these reasons, Red River Frame was the predominant type of construction used in the Canadian West during the fur trade era. The Red River style of log construction has spread across North America and is currently enjoying new popularity. pièce sur pièce à tenon en coulisse.

PARKS CANADA. An historically inhabited place is an entity which was inhabited in the past but is no longer inhabited. As its name does not appear in the relevant provincial or territorial Gazetteer, the only evidence of its existence comes from history books or archival documents. This is the case of, among others, "Port-la-Joye"(P. E. I.), "Lower Fort Garry"(Man.), "Fish Creek"(Sask.), "Ninstints"(B. C.) and "Dawson City"(Y. T.), names of historically inhabited places used in Parks Canada toponyms. 1, record 13, English, - historically%20inhabited%20place

Sometimes, a distinction must be made between the historical designation and the present designation of a given toponym. For example, history texts confirm the existence in present-day Nova Scotia of "Port-Royal" (an historically inhabited place), where Champlain built the Habitation in 1605. The Gazetteer for the province indicates the existence, near the historical site, of the rural community now incorporated under the name "Port Royal" (currently gazetteered inhabited place); the same comment applies to the historical "Grand-Pré" and the currently inhabited "Grand Pré". Similarly, "Castle Hill" and "Signal Hill" (Nfld.) are entities that were once inhabited and were located on the geographical entities having the same names that are currently gazetteered and have a different form in FR: "Castle Hill (Nfld.) -- colline Castle (T.-N.)" and "Signal Hill (Nfld.) -- colline Signal (T.-N.)". 1, record 13, English, - historically%20inhabited%20place

PARCS CANADA. 1, record 13, French, - lieu%20historiquement%20habit%C3%A9
Record number: 13, Textual support number: 1 OBS
-- colline Signal (T.-N.)». 1, record 13, French, - lieu%20historiquement%20habit%C3%A9
