If a deed be made by more parties than one, there ought to be regularly as many copies of it as there are parties, and each should be cut or indented(formerly in acute angles "instar dentium, "like the teeth of a saw, but at present in a waving line) on the top or side, to tally or correspond with the other; which deed so made, is called an indenture.(Blackstone, 15th ed., 1809, Book II, c. 20, p. 295) 1, record 3, English, - indenture

In modern practice the indenture as well as the deed poll is written on a single sheet of paper, the indenture not being "indented" as anciently; the difference between the two being that the indenture is signed by both grantor and grantee, the deed poll being signed only by the grantor. Pit sawing operations have a long and vibrant history. Well before circular saws were used to saw logs lengthwise, they were processed by placing them over a "pit"-hence the reference to "pit saw. "The saw operates vertically up and down. Operated by two men, a man on top, known as the "Top Dog", guided the saw as it was pulled down in a cutting motion by the "Underdog. "The "Top dog" recovered the saw and the "Underdog" then pulled it down in a cutting motion again. Needless to say the "Underdog" copped a fair bit of sawdust. The top of the saw has a fixed "tiller handle" so the topdog can guide it and cut a straight line. The lower part of the saw has a "block" which is easily detachable with a wedge. The Oshawa Railway Company was born in 1895, and effectively died on May 2, 1964 when the line was 100% dieselized by the CNR, however, power was not shut off until July 2, 1964. The OR was built, as most railways were, to provide both freight and passenger service. In the case of the OR, its operation was confined to the City of Oshawa even though they operated a number of passenger cars that would have been more suited to interurban operation. The main passenger line ran in a north-south direction on Simcoe Street, from Ross’ Corners down to Lakeview Park on the shores of Lake Ontario. When passenger service ended in 1940, several cars were re-distributed among other Canadian National Electric Railway lines where they saw many more years of use. 1, record 8, English, - Oshawa%20Railway%20Company

Reman Edgers. This type of edger is variously called a pocket edger, salvage edger or reman edger. There are many types depending on input stock and product line.... A personal preference, where a wide variety of sizes are to be made by remanufacture, is for a chipping type machine with as many pockets as needed to make the various sizes in the product line. The author recently saw one of these.... This machine had pockets to rip 2 X 8 or 2 X 4s or to remanufacture faulty pieces to 2 X 4, 1 X 4, 1 X 3, 2 X 3 or 2 X 2. 1, record 9, English, - reman%20edger

1, record 17, French, - bloc%2Ds%C3%A9parateur%20de%20planches

In friction cutting, an intense heat is generated which softens the material. The blade teeth do not actually cut but, rather, scoop out the soft material.... A momentary contact of the fast-moving saw tooth against the material being cut produces enough friction to heat the material to its softening point. This heating is largely confined to a very small area of contact immediately ahead of the saw blade.... As the material is fed into the saw, this narrow line of softened material is removed by the rapid motion of the blade. 2, record 18, English, - friction%20sawing
