A ghost forest is the watery remains of a once verdant woodland. As sea level rises, more and more saltwater encroaches on the land. Along the world's coasts and estuaries, invading seawater advances and overtakes the fresh water that deciduous trees rely upon for sustenance. The salty water slowly poisons living trees, leaving a haunted ghost forest of dead and dying timber. Still standing in or near brackish water, the decaying trees of a ghost forest resemble giant graying pillars that protrude into the air.

Cork Insulation. Cork is the outer bark of an oak tree that flourishes only in the area surrounding the western Mediterranean Sea. A monsoon circulation is similar to a sea/land breeze, except that it occurs over a much larger area. The most famous monsoon circulation occurs over India and southeast Asia. During the summer, the air over the continent becomes much warmer than the water surface, so the surface air moves from the water to the land. The humid air from the water converges with dry air from over the continent and produces precipitation over the region. Additional lifting from hills and mountains causes copious amounts of precipitation to occur, over 400 inches at some locations! During the winter the flow reverses and the dominant surface flow moves from the land to the water.

A "shirt sleeve" environment must utilize a breathing mixture which is fire safe and provides hypoxia and DCS [Decompression Sickness] protection. Argon is an inert gas with properties similar to nitrogen. It is relatively inexpensive and available. In terms of fire protection, a 38% oxygen and 62% argon mixture at 7. 34 psia will provide an equivalent burn rate of paper strips at sea level air. In terms of hypoxia prevention, this mixture, at this pressure, is the equivalent of breathing air at an altitude of 2, 728 feet.

For the purpose of this discussion, "weaponization" is limited to destructive mechanisms and do not include observation, communications or other non-destructive activities, even if military in nature. The weaponization of space could take a variety of forms. First, there is the threat from above posed by space strike or orbital bombardment weapon systems. Orbital bombardment weapons are weapon systems that operate in space for one or more orbits and strike at land, sea or air targets. Secondly, there are anti-satellite(ASAT) weapon systems used to permanently degrade, damage or destroy enemy satellites. Lastly, there are ballistic missile defence(BMD) weapon systems. Some variants of BMD systems may be based in outer space and be used to destroy incoming ballistic missiles through the boost and mid-course phases of their flight. Putative weapons, such as orbiting space-based lasers based on "exotic" technologies or variants of conventionally-armed and kinetic energy "kill-mechanism" missile interceptors may be capable of performing all three functions.
