A system for harvesting the energy of waves (swell) in the shape of an on-shore barrier that retains and directs the water in a reservoir linked with a turbine for the production of electricity.

Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm.

The main thrusts of WCIRP include :(i) testing of methodologies for national climate impact and sea level rise assessment;(ii) providing coordination of national climate impact and response strategies programmes;(iii) improved techniques for making inventories of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases;(iv) developing techniques for national response strategies;(v) improving public information; and(vi) air quality assessment and air pollution mitigation strategies.

A research project on the possible effects of an accelerated sea level rise on the geomorphology and ecology of the Netherlands Wadden Sea was started in 1990 by the National Institute for Coastal and Marine Management/RIKZ of Rijkswaterstaat, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. This project was carried out within the framework of the "Impact of Sea level On Society"(ISOS) project and the Netherlands national research programme(NRP) on Global Air Pollution and Climatic Change.

The potential consequences of climate change for The Netherlands were investigated in the study The Impact of Sea Level Rise on Society(ISOS). Various scenarios of climate change were considered, including sea level rise, changes in river discharge and storm patterns(the latter is defined as an unfavourable change in wind direction and an increase in wind intensity of 10%).
