It is estimated on the basis of observed changes since the beginning of this century, that global warming of 1. 5 °C to 4. 5 °C would lead to a sea-level rise of 20-140 centimeters. À mesure que la calotte glaciaire du Groenland fond et perd de la masse, elle exerce moins d'attraction gravitationnelle sur l'eau en haute mer, et l'eau migre donc loin de la calotte glaciaire. Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm. 1, record 17, English, - wave%20energy%20breakwater

Most of the early attention to the issue of sea level rise and greenhouse warming was related to the stability of the West Antarctic ice sheet. Parts of this ice sheet are grounded far below sea level and may be very sensitive so small changes in sea level or melting rates at the base of adjacent ice shelves. 1, record 24, English, - West%20Antarctic%20ice%20sheet

Sea level rise, which affects inhabitants of the Earth, has led to a major research interest in the mass balance of the ice sheets. NASA responded by initiating a program to measure the elevation and thickness of the Greenland ice sheet. Airborne laser altimetry and radio echo sounding provide methods for obtaining the ice parameters. 2, record 25, English, - radio%20echo%20sounding

Initially this programme was called the World Climate Impact Studies Programme(WCIP), overall objective of which was to assess the sensitivity of socio-economic sectors to climate variability and change. In 1991, additional task of developing options for socio-economic response strategies related to climate variability and change was added to the programme. The main thrusts of WCIRP include :(i) testing of methodologies for national climate impact and sea level rise assessment;(ii) providing coordination of national climate impact and response strategies programmes;(iii) improved techniques for making inventories of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases;(iv) developing techniques for national response strategies;(v) improving public information; and(vi) air quality assessment and air pollution mitigation strategies. 4, record 26, English, - World%20Climate%20Impact%20Assessment%20and%20Response%20Strategies%20Programme

A research project on the possible effects of an accelerated sea level rise on the geomorphology and ecology of the Netherlands Wadden Sea was started in 1990 by the National Institute for Coastal and Marine Management/RIKZ of Rijkswaterstaat, the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management of the Netherlands Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. This project was carried out within the framework of the "Impact of Sea level On Society"(ISOS) project and the Netherlands national research programme(NRP) on Global Air Pollution and Climatic Change. 2, record 27, English, - impact%20of%20sea%20level%20rise%20on%20society

The potential consequences of climate change for The Netherlands were investigated in the study The Impact of Sea Level Rise on Society(ISOS). Various scenarios of climate change were considered, including sea level rise, changes in river discharge and storm patterns(the latter is defined as an unfavourable change in wind direction and an increase in wind intensity of 10%). 3, record 27, English, - impact%20of%20sea%20level%20rise%20on%20society
