Record 4 1993-06-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Packaging Techniques
CONT

Hot melt sealing : In this sealing method, either a continuous strip or dots of molten thermoplastic material is applied between the two surfaces to be sealed, just before they are pressed together. The hot melt contains sufficient heat to cause it to adhere to the package members to be sealed together, and the package members have the heat absorbing capacity to chill the seal before pressure is relieved.

OBS

This method is useful where directly applied heat might damage the packaging materials to be sealed together, or where a second pressure-cooling step might otherwise be required. Hot melts can also supply special interfacial properties, such as peelability.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Techniques d'emballage
CONT

Record 6 1983-12-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Doors, Windows and Openings (Building Elements)
OBS

Partial threshold weatherstripping consists of a length of material, triangular in cross-section,(usually metal with a vinyl or closed-cell foam gasket) fastened to the floor on the exterior side of the door. When closed, the door butts against the strip, thus creating a seal even if there is no threshold directly beneath the door. In CATIR-E, 1983, no. 4, p. 33(Canadian Tire "Winter Shopping Guide"), this type of weatherstripping is described as a bumper.

French

Domaine(s)

OBS

Dans le "Guide des achats d'hiver 1983-84" de Canadian Tire, on emploie le mot "butoir" pour décrire ce type de coupe-bise.
